“DEBATE AND DIVERGENCE OF VIEWS CAN ONLY ENRICH OUR HISTORY AND CULTURE”
Debate Competition was organised by Indian Institute of Technology, Bhilai on Thursday. The competition involved the participation of five students each from three esteemed colleges – Indian Institute of Management Raipur, Government Engineering College and Indian Institute of technology, Bhilai. The competition, which was part of “Independence fortnight 2016”, aimed at not only finding potential speakers but also upon polishing their qualities, general awareness and confidence.
The topics were given on the spot and covered different aspects of society ranging from “The abolition of capital punishment” to “Women Empowerment”. All the contestants put forth their views and arguments skilfully and convincingly with supporting facts presenting different perspectives. Harshit Kalra, an IIM Raipur student who was one of the jury members said, “It was a great experience altogether with students portraying their ideas in a very creative and structured manner despite the small amount of time they had for preparation”.
Indian Institute of Management Raipur added yet another feather in their illustrious cap with Nishant Joshi emerging as the winner and making their Alma Mater proud as he held aloft a glittering memento relishing this glorious moment. The second position was bagged by Harshwarden Patel of IIT Bhilai. The students participated with excitement and passion, which reflected their interest and knowledge about the crucial social issues.
The students felt that these competitions played a vital role in the personality development of the students and thus should be organized on a regular basis. Education plays rudimentary role in our society and civilization of human society is determined by education. This competition reminded us that Youth can play a positive role towards community service and efforts should be made to sensitize the youth to play its role for the betterment of the society. It invoked high intellectual feeling and ended successfully with a lot of appreciation from faculty from all the three institutes.
