Early this Saturday morning, the premises of Telav’s Government school, TelavSarvajanikVidyalaya saw a great buzz as MICA’s student-run community radio station MICAVAANI organized its flagship annual event, ‘AapnoManch’. The event is designed as a stage set for the people of Telav and nearby villages to facilitate expression of opinions and talents. This year, the event saw a tremendous response, as 300-400 people from the villages came together to make the event a success.
Starting at around 8 in the morning, the event lasted for over 4 hours, filled with color and celebration as people across age groups took to the stage to display their talents. Since this year’s theme revolved around sports, a lot of people exhibited their talents in different sporting activities, organized by the student team. The popularity of the radio station and the student RJs among the crowd was palpable as they instantly recognized and applauded them.
Mr.AbhinavChaturvedi, a state level cricketer from Decathlon was the chief guest for the day. “The event is a window for MICAVAANI to connect to the people we cater to in an environment where we can freely bond with them and understand their perspectives, so that we can deliver content that enriches their lives,” said RJ KanjSaurav, one of the members of MICAVAANI.
“The idea of this year’s theme was about spreading awareness about fitness and giving equal weightage to sports as to other activities. We’re grateful to the school for their excellent and continual co-operation for our cause,” said RJ Anurag, one of the members of MICAVAANI
Known for spreading social messages and awareness on critical issues including sanitation, hygiene and education, MICAVAANI enjoys immense popularity and listenership in the villages surrounding MICA, and the team has seen such exhibitions of affection from the crowd several times before.
The winners of the event today were awarded with trophies and certificates from team MICAVAANI, apart from MICAVAANI merchandize and footballs.
The main sponsor for the event was Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority. The MICAVAANI team took this opportunity to provide disaster management awareness to the villagers.
