On Tuesday, MICA Incubator hosted Startup India Rocks’ Ahmedabad edition, a precursor to the Global Start-Up conference to be held in Bangalore from 18th to 19th November, 2016. The daylong event witnessed a large scale participation from startups across Ahmedabad, who pitched their projects to investors from Scaale Inc., Cross Border Angels, and Ahmedabad Angels.
The event began with a conversation with entrepreneurs seeking to understand the multiple facets of raising growth capital, on the theme ‘The Right Time to Approach Investors’, targeted at entrepreneurs looking to expand to the next level. This was followed by a discussion on ‘Legal Insights’ by VoxLaw, and a dialog on ‘Branding and Strategy Insights’ by the Times Network, all of which combined to produce an informative session for emerging entrepreneurs.
The event culminated with a pitching session, whereby around 20 startups, from across Ahmedabad presented their projects to the judging panel, comprising of Mr. MunirThakore and Mr. PavanBakeri, from Ahmedabad Angels, and Mr. KaushalChokshi from Scaale Inc.
From its maiden conference in Goa last year, Startup India Rocks has expanded to a 20 city roadshow in 2016, collecting talent from smaller cities, and connecting them with international investors and delegations at the finale at Bangalore. Commenting on the event, Mr. MandarGadkari, Director – India, Cross Border Angels, said, “Ahmedabad has a great ecosystem, but it needs an international connect. We want to create India’s biggest roadshow by tapping into the local ecosystems, and the primary goal is to get these startups funding. It’s great to have MICA as a partner, as to tap into a local body, we need local intelligence, which MICA represents.”
The program was hosted in association with the MICA Incubator, a first-of- its-kind venture that aims to encourage entrepreneurship in the communication sector. Mr. U. T. Rao, Chairperson, MICA Incubator, thanked the Startup India Rocks team for an enriching event, and said “It was a great event. I hope a lot of brilliant startups from Ahmedabad are able to procure funding from this great platform.”
