The 22nd convocation ceremony of MICA will be held on 1 April, 2017 at the MICA campus grounds. The faculty, students, and parents will come together to celebrate the graduation of yet another dynamic batch of MICAns who will take a step into the world towards becoming industry leaders, global professionals and game changers for societal transformation.MICA is honoured to welcome the distinguished media entrepreneur Mr. Ronnie Screwvala as the chief guest on this special occasion to join in the celebration.
Mr. Screwvala will share his professional and life gains as a leader, creator and innovator. He will emphasize the intersection of left and right brain; heart and mind, which is MICA’s guiding philosophy. His convocation address will focus on creativity and commerce to reflect on the ever-changing global trends impacting industry, work cultures and lifestyles.
Mr.RonnieScrewvalais the founder of one of the leading and most successful entertainment media companies, the UTV Group. Mr. Screwvala is a self-made entrepreneur. He started his entrepreneurial journey with a toothbrush manufacturing company, went on to pioneer Cable TV network in India and moved further to create one of the largest Media and Entertainment corporations,UTV (now divested to Walt Disney India). Every business venture, right from toothbrush manufacturing to UTV, made strides towards success. His entrepreneurial success earned him much veneration. ‘He has been named on Esquire's List of the 75 Most Influential People of the 21st Century (September 2008) and ranked 78 among the 100 most influential people in the world on the Time 100 (complied by Time Magazine, 2009). He was also listed amongst 25 Asia’s Most Powerful by Fortune Magazine, titled the Jack Warner of India by Newsweek, and named Entrepreneur of the year by Ernst & Young’ (source: Wikipedia).
Post UTV, Mr. Screwvala started a second innings in entrepreneurship with Unilazer Ventures, a private equityfirm to encourage young entrepreneurial ventures. Being an entrepreneurial champion, he shares his learnings and views in his book on entrepreneurship titled ‘Dream with Your Eyes Open: An Entrepreneurial Journey’. He has also founded an online education company UpGradwhose focus is to provide greater access to post graduate education and higher studies in specialized areas such as business management, data analytics, digital marketing and entrepreneurship.
He has also founded a sports company USports that aims at encouraging and boosting sports in the country by investing in league sports, team ownerships and grassroots training programmes. The company owns the professional Kabaddi league team, U Mumba.
Mr. Ronnie Screwvala has also ventured into philanthropy and social welfare programmes with Swades Foundation that he runs along with his wife Ms. Zarina Mehta. The Swades foundation’s initiatives are aimed at empowering rural communities and helping them tackle issues of health, sanitation, education, agriculture and livelihood, thus helping elevate the standard of living of rural India.
