One of India’s most premier management schools with a distinctive focus on grooming Leadership through Innovation, Execution and Social Responsibility, IMT Ghaziabad, hosted Communicon 2018, its Annual Media Conclave, aiming to provide the students with an opportunity to witness a magnificent industry revelry.

The Conclave was held from January 17-19, 2018, at the grand IMTG campus. A total of four events were held under the purview of Communicon 2018. The event saw exemplary Industry stalwarts delivering substantial insights into the functional and creative outside world via panel discussions and discourses. Alongside, the Communicon served as a platform to promote inter-college engagements, whereby students from the top Business Schools in the country were invited, to participate in various events such as debates, mock press conferences, and case study competitions.

The thrust of the conclave- Vichar Vimarsh, incorporated a panel discussion, boasting Media stalwarts, including Mr. Avijit Dutt, a renowned actor, director, and TedX speaker, Mr. Sushil Pandit, owner of HIVE Communications and a renowned political commentator, Mr. Jaskirat Singh Bawa, Senior News Editor, The Quint, and Mr. Avanish Pathak, News Editor, News18 Live Hindi.

The speakers held a remarkably engaging discussion around the topic – Convenient Lies and the Inconvenient Truth, whether media houses should publish opinions as facts. Moderating the discussion was Professor Anand Pillai, Adjunct Professor, IMT Ghaziabad, former Senior VP (HR) at Reliance Industries Limited and HCL Technologies.

The panel discussion witnessed heated debates among the panellists, who roused each mental nerve of the audience, and augmented their knowledge spectrums. The firing up of innovative ideas, arguments and counter-parts from all sides, shaped up the striking exquisiteness of the discussion. The topic was dissected from all angles, veering towards subjects like liberal politics, and plight of Kashmiri Pandits.

The enormous audience of 250 enlightened and big-eyed heads, frequently broke out in applause in response to the flamboyant verbal jousting on display. The impact of the discussion was evident from the peppering of the stage with incredibly probing questions, aimed at the panellists.

The other events held under Communicon included: Big 10, a simulation-based Media Interfacing competition; Meraki, an open mic Poetry event; and a Theatre Night. As part of the Theatre Night, University Gigs performed their rendition of Marc Camoletti’s play- ‘Don’t Dress for Dinner’, a hilarious affair which had the audience in splits all throughout.

The event Meraki, featured Simar Singh, from UnErase Poetry and poet Syed Rizwan Musanna, along with numerous budding poetry enthusiasts from IMT Ghaziabad. The event rendered magic through poetry, music and a bonfire which stirred the flames of expression amongst the attendants. Big 10 saw participation from tens of B-schools and educated the students about the intricacies of Media Interfacing. Students presented and defended their stated positions on gob topics ranging from political fallouts to company-wide financial failures.
