A Proud BIMTECH-ian
SUMIT REKHI, Selected in Trident Group @ Annual CTC of Whopping Rs. 18 Lakhs!
Read about his successful journey, in his own words, of getting placed in a company which is a leading manufacturer and exporter in five major business segments, having a global footprint in more than 75 countries and 6 continents.
Getting placed after a grueling 6 months long All-India Level recruitment process wherein more than 40,000 aspirants participated and competed for a company which is a leading manufacturer and exporter having a global footprint in more than 75 countries and 6 continents was something I had never fathomed even in my wildest dreams.
In fact, so demanding was the placement process that out of the above mentioned number of aspirants only 150 got shortlisted after the initial round, out of which just 10% made it to the final cut. And all this was spread over a span of 6 months, but surely the end result was worth all the blood, sweat and tears. After an arduous toil I had finally made it among the top few deserving candidates across the nation to make it through the recruitment process called as ‘Opportunities Unlimited 2015 Hiring’ of TRIDENT. I had an enriching experience at each stage of my selection process.
With a highly impressive placement offer of Rs. 18 LPA for a management graduate with a challenging role of a Front Line Entrepreneur at World’s leading Textile Company-TRIDENT GROUP nothing could have been more perfect to kick-start my journey of corporate life than this golden opportunity.
How BIMTECH prepared me for my Achievement ?
Sumit Rekhi recalls that, the 6-month long placement process of TRIDENT, a $1bn company, was never a walk in the park. The grueling interview rounds tested my knowledge in the fields of Marketing, Finance and Human Resources and I am proud that BIMTECH curriculum made sure I got through them with relative ease.
BIMTECH’s pedagogy is based on experiential learning combining benefits of both in-class and out-of-class learning on a 24X7 basis and is very modern in its approach. Its course curriculum is regularly revised under the mentorship of a Committee comprising of senior academicians and industry experts to make it more relevant and industry oriented.
The Institute ensures that students get a firsthand experience of various innovative pedagogic methods like ‘case study approach’ and ‘design thinking’ etc. from an extremely rich faculty resource drawn from leadership positions in industry and academia. Fresh case studies and numerous hands-on projects make learning a fun process here. The class presentations and discussions helped me in gaining valuable experience and also boosted my confidence level.
The continuous support and encouragement of faculty members and a conducive learning environment at BIMTECH helped me gain an edge in a tough placement process competing among aspirants having work experience of over 10-12 years in the textile industry.
When I had joined BIMTECH, the Nation was reeling under the Uttarakhand Floods. I took up the initiative of organizing a charity event “Uttaradaan” to generate funds for the flood-affected people. The event was a great success and it served as a platform to generate cohesion among the new students as well. We managed to generate Rs. 1 lakh for the flood-relief. BIMTECH supported me immensely throughout the entire campaign.
I have always been into keeping my fitness levels up as “a healthy body houses a healthy mind”. BIMTECH with its gym and sporting facilities helped me maintain that. I used to run in the campus every day and I participated and won laurels in most of the sporting events held on and off campus. I was a member of the Discipline Conduit of the Institute which also helped me gain a lot of experience in managing events and man-management. BIMTECH promoted me in winning debate competitions held in reputed B-Schools such as MDI, IMT, LBSIM etc. which helped me propel my knowledge base.
However, the moment that stands out in BIMTECH was when I got an opportunity to present my project idea during the MTS Innovatsii to the Micromax Co-founder and the MTS CEO. The project was chosen among the Top 10 project ideas nation-wide and I credit the entire laurel to BIMTECH’s “Lego Serious Play Design Thinking Workshop” that aided me immensely in achieving this laurel.
To the incoming batches at BIMTECH and other B-Schools this year, I would like to say that be yourself and have goal clarity. Consistent performance both in academics and co-curricular activities can help increase ones confidence and develop managerial skills through unconventional ways. Equip yourself with essential courses like Six Sigma, Capstone, and statistical tools like SPSS and Excel, training of which the Institute provides from time to time. Apart from your regular subjects, knowledge of these applications and concepts generally help recruiters differentiate candidates while placement process.
In a nutshell, BIMTECH is a platform to exercise independent thinking and amplify your ideas. So come, take the advantage of its rich intellectual resource and enriching cross cultural learning experience in a beautifully landscaped plush environment conducive for a long term career growth of managers-in-making.
