To dream by night is to escape your life. To dream by day is to make it happen.

Psychologists such as Sigmund Freud would have us believe that dreams are an alternate reality and need to be taken seriously. Dreams are a result of that part of the mind (called 'ID') which remains repressed through the day due to societal considerations and comes to the surface at night when the mind is most relaxed. So, on one hand, dreams help you escape the drudgery of life, on the other hand, they reflect your innermost desires. What you do with your dreams decide the kind of lives you will live.

Some dreams are too worthy to let go in the darkness of night. The dreams which remain with us even when we gain full consciousness during the day, are a true reflection of our aspirations and our goals. Visionaries such as Bill Clinton and Mark Zuckerberg are dreamers who found ways to turn their dreams, their vision into reality. What differentiates them from ordinary people is that they don’t dream to escape the challenges of life, they don’t dream to escape life but they dream of turning the challenges into opportunities, and hence, make things happen.

It is important to dream. But, merely dreaming about reaching the pinnacle of success is a futile exercise in itself and can only be a source of joy momentarily until the dream lasts in your minds. The crucial thing is to back it up with action. You may dream of becoming a Warren Buffet, a Sundar Pichai or an Indra Nooyi but if you are not willing to put in the hard yards and ‘do’ something about your dream, rest assure you will not get anywhere close to your dream. Sans concrete action, a dream will remain just that- a dream.

The notion of ‘carpe diem’ or seize the moment captures the very essence of the life of a successful person. Only those who catch hold of their dreams, their visions of where they want to be in their lives and seize every moment of the day to work towards achieving it, taste success.

The people who dream in the day are not wasting time. In fact, they are setting goals for themselves and are determined to achieve them with open eyes. Thus, be a dreamer, who dreams and acts to succeed.
