"Self discipline is best security for females in India"

Self discipline is all about training and controlling one’s conduct for personal development. Today, security for females has become an important issue in India. With an increase in the number of molest and rape cases in India, apart from depending on the police, females can practice self discipline.

Females today are becoming westernized and they are emulating western fashion and behavior in India. In India, there are individuals who belong to various segments – urban, semi-urban, and rural. People in urban settings are aware of Western culture but those in semi-urban and rural areas are oblivious to the Western culture. So, when females wear short skirts or revealing clothes, it entices the semi-urban and rural population. So, it is important to dress modestly and behave in a demure manner in public places.

Since most of the people in India have a traditional mindset, females roaming around at night is frowned upon. People tend to look at modern females in a negative light. They feel that such females do not have proper values and upbringing. This attracts negative crowd towards women. So, practicing self discipline is essential for the safety of women. Last year, two rape cases occurred in Delhi late at night. Statistics show that females are at danger at night, when they are improperly dressed, and when they do not behave modestly in public places.

As the saying goes, ‘prevention is better than cure’, it is better to avoid danger by practicing self discipline and proper conduct than  running around police stations after a crime occurs. Of course, when one practices self discipline, an individual loses the freedom to act and behave as per her will. But this is a small price to pay given the stakes at hand in India.

So, the best security for females in India is self discipline. Since the police cannot be at every potential crime scene in India, it is best for an individual to take the necessary precautions to avoid danger. Protecting one’s body and dignity is an individual’s responsibility and not the responsibility of the society or the state. With greater self control and discipline, Indians will be able to eradicate crimes against women.
