Teachers make the Nation and Netas spoilsport national matrix

Politics and Education are two crucial fields which shape the national matrix. While politicians are tasked with the responsibility of running the country efficiently and ensuring development, educators are tasked with the responsibility of nurturing and educating the future of the country-its children who are the spine of the country. If both these professions operate sincerely and efficiently, the nation will surge ahead harmoniously.

A. Since both teaching and politics shape the lives of other people, they demand a selfless attitude of those engaged in these fields. The onerous task of nation-building cannot be completed without the active contribution of these two pillars of a nation.

B. On one hand, teachers, by imparting education and values to the students, by giving them the right environment to grow and develop, are preparing them to take on future responsibilities and become good citizens of the country, politicians, too, being the representatives of the common people, have the noble task of looking after the welfare of the people and taking decisions which will strengthen the national matrix and lead the country towards development.

C. Given the crucial role played by these professions and the impact they have on the society, it is absolutely essential that people who choose these professions are committed to the task and are sincere otherwise they will not be able to do justice to the profession and feel themselves to be misfits.

D. Therefore, the recent spurt in cases of impropriety and immorality, especially in the field of politics is a cause of a great concern. People's trust in government and democracy suffers when the public servants, the politicians, who are meant to safeguard the rights of citizens and maintain high standards of morality as they are public figures, fall into the trap of greed, corruption and other forms of impropriety.

E. By using the special powers and privileges, granted to them on account of the positions they hold, for furthering their own interests, the politicians betray the trust imposed on them by the people and the nation and, in fact, spoil the national matrix. For instance, 'VIP racism', a term coined in the media recently, to denote the special treatment offered to politicians (such as clear roads for their passage, high subsidies and so on) highlight the discrimination in the society.

F. The practice of indulging in vote- bank politics to appease a particular section of the society to secure power, followed by politicians, destroys the national fabric of the country and divides the country into vote- banks. By dividing the country on the basis of caste, religion, gender and so on to serve petty interests, the politicians do a great disservice to the nation and the process of nation- building.

G. In contrast, the teachers, who shape the future of the country, lead a life of struggle. Their interests are seldom given importance and their contribution to nation-building is conveniently forgotten. The values of inclusion, harmony and unity that the teachers imbibe in their students ensure that they contribute constructively to nation building when they grow up.

H.There are surely few rotten apples in teaching as well who take unfair advantage of their positions and bring a bad name to the noble profession.

While both teaching and politics involve an element of power, teaching uses the power that teacher exercises over children for the benefit of children and contribute constructively to the process of nation building. Politicians are prone to digress from the process of nation building and serve selfish interests. Unless both these institutions look within and cleanse themselves of the rot within, the nation cannot progress.
