MICA hosted its Annual Awards Ceremony for the 20th batch of Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Communications) and the 24th batch of the students of its Crafting Creative Communications (CCC) programme today, at the Mani Ayer Auditorium, in campus premises. The Chief Guest for the Ceremony was Ms. Kirthiga Reddy, MD, Facebook India.
Every year MICA recognizes students who perform exceedingly well in academics, extra curriculars and those who undertake other major activities like thesis writing and live projects. Broadly the categories include excellence in core concentration areas such as Advertising Management, Brand Management, Digital Communications Management, Marketing Research and Analytics and Media Management and apart from this, separate awards are given out for the best rural research projects, best dissertations, all round achievers, best campaigns of the year etc.
The ceremony began with the planting of a sapling by the dignitaries who graced the function, Ms. Kirthiga Reddy and Mr. Prashant Bhatnagar, Vice President - Hiring and Staffing, SapientNitro. Mr. Nagesh Rao, President and Director of MICA, warmly welcomed the guests in his speech and before the commencement of announcement of Awards, Scholarships & Certificates by Mr. Sethu Iyer, Executive Registrar (I/C), Ms. Kirthiga Reddy was invited on-stage to deliver the address.
Ms. Reddy spoke about her Facebook journey and explained why the younger generation feels the need to post their goings-on in everyday life on social media and how marketers like Pallavi Gupta, of Mast Kalandar fast food chain, have leveraged on this very important digital tool to gain traction and run a business successfully. After highlighting the key aspects and areas where Facebook has touched lives and made them better, she moved on to narrate her own story, an inspiring tale of her origins in a middle-class family, her education and the decisions she made which led to a better work-life balance. She declared that all the recognition gained for setting up the Facebook office in India and pursuing a successful career thereon – including achievements like being named one of the “Most Creative People 2013”by Fast Company or “Hottest Young Business Leaders 2011” by Business Today, was never planned. She did her job with dedication and the rest simply followed suit.
She urged the students to dream big, get their hands dirty and balance personal and professional lives. By the end of her speech the left the students pondering over one question “What would you do, if you weren’t afraid?”
Post the fuelling speech, the ceremony kickstarted and achievers were duly recognized with cash awards, trophies and certificates, while proud parents beamed from amongst the audience. During the course of the ceremony, the announcement of retirement a senior professor, Mr.Arbind Sinha was also announced and a token of appreciation was presented to him by the MICA family for his service towards shaping MICA and making it one of the top institutes for Strategic Marketing and Communication.
The campus is now gearing up for the final function of the academic year, its 20th convocation which is scheduled to take place in the MICA lawns tomorrow evening.
