Day 2 at the Yellow Umbrella Fest witnessed competitions in full swing and dance performances galore at Maverick with Poorva Batra and Jennifer Jacob from MICA bagging 1st and 2nd prize respectively.

The early birds on campus had the pleasure to interact with Baradwaj Rangan, Senior Deputy Editor at The Hindu and winner of the National Film Award for ‘Best Film Critic’ at Author’s Speak.
For those more theatrically inclined, the renowned Qasar Padamsee conducted a unique theatre workshop exploring pitch, stage presence and love of theatre. One of the attendees Nishtha Ramakrishnan, PGP-1, said “This workshop has helped us look at theatre from a totally different perspective. I believe drama school is very essential in today’s dynamic landscape. It requires a high level of commitment from our end to make it seem natural and realistic while performing on stage.”
Artists were in the zone sketching various parts of the colorful MICAn campus at Finesse with Team Muskaan from NID turning their ideas into a cornucopia of colors and winning big.

Team Shadow Fax from MICA and Team A-Team from NMIMS came in 1st and 2nd respectively at Bestseller, the book marketing competition, where they were at the realm of a publishing house and had to decide how, where, when and whom to sell their books to.

Dhwaniyaan, powered by Radio One was the Radio Play competition that broadcasted a series of captivating radio plays with ‘Prometheus-The God (Father)’ winning 1st place by Team Nautanki Saale. One of the team members Vaibhav Prakash, PGP-1, said, “I think our work will resonate for a long time. Can’t wait to broadcast my first radio play on Radio one.”

Drishtikon, the short film making competition, screened numerous short films reflecting on this year’s theme of Counter culture a subculture whose values and norms of behavior differ substantially from those of mainstream society, often in opposition to mainstream cultural mores. Team Ziyarat from NMIMS, Mumbai bagged the 1st prize with their film titled ’I am fine’.

The evening saw energy levels soaring with our energy partners Red Bull and a music extravaganza with MTV Indies The Monterey Epithet featuring The Family Cheese, a band with spunk, a riveting indie vibe and a whole lot of bananas.
The Purple Flower, an Ahmedabad based band brought things to a wonderful close with the Start of Something Beautiful and renditions of well known songs which included The Beatles, Bob Dylan and Billy Joel to name a few.

The waves of excitement are resounding; competitions are all coming down to the wire and Yellow Umbrella is closing in on the grand finale day.

The Cultural Wing of MICA, the school of ideas, is setting the stage to present its first edition of 'Yellow Umbrella Festival'- MICA's Annual Cultural Fest to be held on the 23rd, 24th and the 25th of February, 2015.
