Ms.Sunita Ramnathkar, Director, Mitchell Ltd with Prayaas -2011 Participants and Faculty at Welingkar ( In the above picture )

Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research is conducting a three day workshop, Prayaas -2011.  The workshop is all about those women who aspire to be successful entrepreneurs but whose aspirations at some point of time took a back seat because of familial commitments or some other reason.

The workshop Prayaas-2011 is aimed to help out women who want to spread their entrepreneurial wings but have little or no business experience, who have plans to set up their own entrepreneurial ventures but need expert guidance to steer them through the initial complications and possible pitfalls till they are competent enough to be on their own. Yes, being a successful entrepreneur is an irresistible proposition and many women are now turning to it.

Prayaas -2011 started on Gandhi Jayanti i.e. on 2nd Oct with Ms Sunita Ramnathkar, Director Michell Ltd as the chief guest. Ms Ramnathkar motivated the aspiring entrepreneurs with anecdotes from her life underlining the importance of modest beginning, delivering the best and going a step ahead of the customer-expectation. She also told them never to be intimidated by failures as these are the stepping stones to success.

Prayaas- 2011, a welingkar initiative aims at helping this group of women realize their entrepreneurial dreams. The group is well versed in the ways of life as most of the women are in their middle years; they relish dreams with a steely determination to succeed at whatever they put their hands to. Welingkar has extended its support to the group by rendering expert guidance and mentoring to it till their dreams translate into meaningful entrepreneurial ventures and take off. The group will continue getting all the support and mentoring as per their needs even after the workshop.

Among the experts from Welingkar faculty were Prof Kaustubh Dhargalkar, faculty-Business Design and Dr Shriniwas Gondhalekar, globally acknowledged Kaizen expert and Head – PG Diploma in Family Managed Business.  There were also a few of journalism students, who wanted to follow the venture right from the beginning. Dr. Snehlata Deshmukh, who has served illustrious tenures as Dean LTMG Hospital and VC University of Mumbai will also interact with the women at a later stage.

Dr Uday Salunkhe, Group Director, Welingkar Institute, while speaking on the rationale behind the initiative said that, “Prayaas -2011 is an endeavour to help women who have spent all their lives in spreading happiness in the lives of those around them. It is a tribute to the spirit of sacrifice of Indian women. We all have some latent talent inside. It needs only a bit of guidance and mentoring from experts to bring it out and let it bloom. Welingkar is only a means to the same and there could have been no other day as auspicious and befitting as Gandhi Jayanti. We have taken up similar ventures in past for example, WISE which stands for Women in Industry, Society and Economy and we got a fairly good response.

While talking about Welingkar’s role in the initiative he stated that “Welingkar has been of one of the premiere b -schools in the country. Our alumni are spread across the globe, working at senior positions with highly reputed global organisations. As we have years of experience in mentoring and building business acumen and entrepreneurial skills we felt it would be great if we can lend the same expertise and support to these aspiring women with steely determination.”

Keeping the fiercely competitive world we are living in, what Dr. Uday Salunkhe said on the chances of overall success was really enlightening. He said that, “Before embarking on any venture a team of experts would scrutinize it threadbare for its viability in all spheres. Also entrepreneurship is all about playing up your strengths to the hilt as you navigate through risks and work on your weakness. Many of the success stories which we see around started out very modestly and but are role models today.”

The next two sessions of Prayaas-2011 are scheduled for 8th and 15th of the month.
