TISSNET (TISS National Entrance Test) 2021 is university-level examination conducted for admission in 53 master’s programmes across all the TISS (Tata Institute of Social Sciences) campuses in the country I.e. TISS Mumbai, TISS Tuljapur, TISS Hyderabad, TISS Chennai and TISS Guwahati to name a few.  The exam will be held on 20th February, 2021 for the academic year 2021-23 from 2:00 pm to 3:40 pm. 

Time is flying really fast, and you have just few more days left for TISSNET 2021. Here’s a 45 days preparation guide for you.

TISSNET 2021 Exam Pattern

  • Type of Questions: Objective type questions will be asked in the exam.
  • Exam Mode: TISSNET 2021 exam will be organized through computer based mode.
  • Exam Duration & Shift: The duration of exam will be one hour and 40 minutes, which means 100 minutes.
  • Negative Marking: No negative marking will be done in TISSNET 2021 exam.
  • Sections: The examination will have three sections, i.e. English Proficiency, General Awareness and Maths & Logical Reasoning.  The General Awareness section only has a sectional cut-off 35%.

TISSNET 2021: Syllabus

Candidates preparing for the TISSNET exam should consider the officially prescribed syllabus. Below is the detailed syllabus for TISSNET 2021:

TISSNET 2021 Exam Sections

Topics

General Awareness

Environment & ecology, Economy, Policy, Politics, History, Governance, Law, Books, Festivals, Entertainment, International politics, current events, Labour, Gender, Health, Education, Media, Literature, Art, Culture, Sports, etc.

English Proficiency 

Verbal Ability: Antonyms, Odd word out, Analogies, Right usage of words in fill in the blank, Word substitute in a sentence, Right usage of word in match the following, Idioms – Fill in the blank, Fill in the Blanks –Homophones, Idioms – Match the following, Error spotting -grammar/words/ punctuation and Sentence Correction.

 

Reading Comprehension: Strengthen and Weaken, Purpose of the passage, Assumption and Supporting Statement, Inference and Conclusion Drawn, Flaw and Discrepancy, Author’s Point of View, Passage based questions and Main idea of the passage.

Maths and Logical Reasoning

Mathematics: Profit and Loss, Basic Geometry, Averages, Percentages, Ratio and Proportion, etc.

 

Data Interpretation: Bar graph, Pie chart, Tables, Case lets, Double pie chart, Multiple graphs, Data comparison, and Line graphs.

 

Logical Reasoning: Number Series, Eye for detail, Alphabet Series, Statement Conclusion, Assumption,  Arguments, Linear/Circular/Family Arrangement, Logical Connectivity, Venn Diagram, Cubes and Puzzles.

TISSNET 2021: Sectional Approach

General Awareness:

  • There is a minimum of 35% cut off in General Awareness section. Accordingly, you need to score a minimum of 14 marks out of total 40 marks in General Awareness section.
  • Starting today, make sure you attempt at least 25-28 sectional mocks before exam day.
  • Give sufficient time to this section while preparing. This is the most difficult and important section in TISSNET 2021.
  •  Notably, a major chunk of questions in this section is asked from static GK, so you should also keep revising the details of important movements, committees, famous authors, India’s GDP, famous dance, festivals, Judgement, discoveries etc.
  • Make a separate list of dates and events, books and authors, office and bearers etc.
  • Follow national and international news updates
  • Cover the topics focused on cultural and social issues.
  • Get in touch with day-to-day current affairs.
  • Make notes of the events and incidents happening, so that you refer these during revision.
  • Go through various educational videos/books that provide general knowledge.
  • Refer to a few previous year questions to understand the pattern of this section.

English Proficiency:

  • Make sure you attempt at least 24-26 sectional mocks before exam day.
  • Attempt individual Reading Comprehensions with a timer (5 minutes at max).
  • Brush up your grammar skills before the exam.
  • Work on word analogies, antonym synonym, error spotting, and sentence correction. Keep brushing up your grammatical skills and vocabulary and topics like idioms and phrases.
  • Work on vocabulary and reading speed. These are easy to score.
  • Include solving poem based reading comprehension mocks.
  • Switch to online vocabulary enhancers or consult a dictionary to grasp the meaning and usage of a difficult word.
  • Refer 8-10th CBSE English books in order to understand the comprehensive passages.

Maths and Logical Reasoning:

  • Try to attempt at least 26-28 sectional mocks before exam day.
  • Brush up the fundamentals.
  • Learn to deduce answer before moving to choices.
  • Make a separate list of all the formulae.
  • To have an edge in this section, you need to practice daily and have thorough concept clarity
  • Make your own version of techniques, if you can.
  • Solve every question with a timer (2 minutes at max).
  • The level of difficulty of this section fluctuates every year; so you need to master all the concepts, tips and tricks to solve this area.
  • The reasoning and data interpretation section are of equal importance, so do not ignore this section.

Overall Approach

  • Divide your time equally for all the sections of the syllabus. Give some extra time to the toughest subject depending upon your strength and weakness.
  • Having a structured approach to preparation will help you to master each section. Focus on concept knowledge and enhance your knowledge by covering each topic mentioned above.
  • Time management and question-choice are major points for TISS-NET that you should keep in mind.
  • If you are not confident of finishing a new topic and its complete revision before the exam, then do not start it. This will hamper the rest topics you are confident of.
  • Newspapers play a major role when you plan to appear for any exam. Building a habit of reading newspapers daily will give you a double advantage.
  • Learn short cuts and quick calculation for logical ability section.
  • It is always good to take small breaks which help the brain regain focus.
