What is Logistics & Supply Chain Management?
Supply chain management involves - sourcing, procurement, conversion and logistics management of goods and services. SCM is the path of a product from the suppliers to the final customers. Logistics Management is the process that integrates the movement of resources like people, products, services, information, and equipment from storage (preferably) to the final destination (warehouse or end customer)
Although the terms Supply Chain and Logistics are used interchangeably, there is a difference in their scope. SCM is a broader term and is a relatively new concept when compared to logistics. We can say that SCM comprises of Logistics management, but they both individually ensure that the right products are delivered to the right customers on time.
All large economies run on the inflow and outflow of goods, products, and services. With the world reducing to a global village and the rampant digital transformations, we see a shift in focus from cost cutting to value addition, and a robust logistics & supply chain plays a pivotal role. With the global trade increasing in India by a whopping 600 percent in the last three and a half decades and the onset of retail and e-comm industries, all companies big or small need world-class supply chain and logistics professionals. This is where an MBA degree with a specialization in Logistics and Supply Chain Management comes in handy.
