Our Netas fight & don't contest in election!
In March, reports emerged that Arvind Kejriwal was making a trip to Varanasi to defeat Narendra Modi and not to contest election. Arvind Kejriwal claims that he is not interested in becoming the prime minister of the country but he is keen to eradicate corruption.
This is the reason he has put forth for not contesting elections. Arvind Kejriwal and Kumar Vishwas, another member of the Aam Aadmi Party, have not chosen safe seats to win and reach the parliament. Arvind Kejriwal is keen on defeating Modi in Varanasi and Kumar Vishwas has plans of defeating Rahul Gandhi in Amethi.
As of now, it is unclear as to whether Arvind Kejriwal’s tactics will help India to be free of corruption or if there will be no change in India’s political landscape. Arvind Kejriwal’s tactics are relatively new in the political landscape, which is why people are unable to predict the outcome of his actions. Only time will tell if Arvind Kejriwal is going against Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party to satisfy his ego or to help the country.
It is not right to say that our Netas don’t participate in elections – they do participate in elections; it is just that on the surface, the political landscape of India looks like an enclosed space for cat fights.
In April 2014, Finance Minister P Chidambaram, who is not contesting the Lok Sabha election, mentioned that he could have contested the Lok Sabha election against Narendra Modi in Varanasi but was constrained by his lack of knowledge of Hindi.
The opposition, on the other hand, claims that Chidambaram is not taking part in the election because he is afraid of losing and his son mentioned that Chidambaram is planning to take a break. So, it is unsure as to which story is true but it seems pointless to make comments or fight when one has no intention to participate in the election.
Many Netas in our country have the tendency to fight and put other Netas down – corruption is so rampant in the country that everyone wants a share of the money pie and this could be one of the reasons why the fights between Netas are intense. However, it is incorrect to say that our Netas fight and don’t contest elections.
There are some Netas who fight and don’t contest elections but not everyone falls into this bracket. Initially, Arvind Kejriwal was not keen to participate in the election but today, he is contesting from Varanasi.
