Illustrious Alumni of IRMA

Institute of Rural Management Anand is built on the strong principals of Dr. Verghese Kurien, the father of White Revolution in India. Taking his vision and legacy forward is the strong group of alumni of IRMA who are spread across the globe working at various levels as leaders and influencers. John F Kennedy rightly said, “I think the success of any school can be measured by the contribution the alumni make to our national life” and the alumni of IRMA are a testimony to it.

The Institute of Rural Management Alumni Association has more than two thousand members. The association is a bridge between the alumni and its Alma Mater. The two main events organized by the association are – Milaap, the annual alumni reunion and Bees Saal Baad (After Twenty Years) a series of events organized along with the reunion to focus on the batch that joined twenty years ago.

RS Sodhi RS Sodhi Managing Director, Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd., (AMUL) Batch : PRM-1 | Sector : FMCG

Mr R S Sodhi, Managing Director of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd., (AMUL) Anand Gujarat, is a first-batch alumnus from Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA), India. He pursued B.E (Agriculture) from CTAE, Udaipur, India. Mr Sodhi joined GCMMF (AMUL) in the year 1982 directly after completing his post-graduation in rural management from IRMA and rose to the present level of Managing Director.

Mr Sodhi has 37 years of rich experience in leading & developing cooperative sector within Indian dairy industry, having served dairy farmers in several capacities. He has been responsible for creating the current structure of the Amul, enabling the organization to maintain and enhance its leadership status within Indian dairy industry.

Due to Mr Sodhi's leadership, Amul accounts for 25% of organized dairy industry, within India.

Andy Mukherjee is an award-winning business journalist with more than two decades of experience in India, Singapore, and Hong Kong.

He is an esteemed alumnus of IRMA whose versatility took him from finance to business journalism.

Andy is currently a Bloomberg Opinion columnist covering industrial companies and financial services. He previously was a columnist for Reuters Breakingviews. He has also worked for the Straits Times, ET NOW and Bloomberg News.

His opinions and articles are revered in the fields of Economics, Finance and Public Policy. His contribution in the field of opinion journalism is ineffable.

Namita Lal Namita Lal Managing Director, Global Head Payments, Collections, Mobile Money, e-commerce, at Standard Chartered Bank Batch : PRM-7 | Sector : BFSI

Namita Lal is Managing Director & Global Head Payments, Collections, Mobile Money, e-Commerce at Standard Chartered Bank and is based in Singapore.

Namita has been with Standard Chartered Bank for 25 years, most recently as Group Head of International Banking in Singapore. Prior to this, she was Country Head of Consumer Banking, Vietnam. Namita has worked for both the Consumer Bank and Wholesale Bank across India, UK, Africa, Middle East, and South East Asia. Other roles have included General Manager SME Thailand, Head of Cash and Trade Product Management, Head Priority Banking and Manager Non-Resident business. She has enjoyed starting up many businesses for the Bank across its network.

Anmol Sherpa Anmol Sherpa Executive Director, Global Business Services, The Nielsen Company Batch : PRM-14 | Sector : Consulting, Advisory, Research

Anmol Sherpa is Executive Director, Global Business Services at The Nielsen Company. She is also Business Partner, Reference Data (SEANAP, Greater China, India Region) at Nielsen.

Anmol has an extensive 18+ years of experience in consumer insights working with FMCG clients on addressing wide ranging business issues using relevant market information. She has led large teams delivering on revenue targets and managing branch affairs as a centre head. Her experience in conceptualization and set up of new services and operations has given me a well-rounded knowledge on various products and opportunities to work with cross functional teams.

Manju George Manju George Global Leadership Fellow at the World Economic Forum, Geneva Batch : PRM-23 | Sector : Consulting, Advisory, Research

Manju George is a Global Leadership Fellow at the World Economic Forum and Community Lead at the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship, Switzerland. She manages the Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Social Innovation that focuses on advancing socially inclusive and innovative practices, especially within business.

Previously, she co-founded Intellecap, an India-based consulting and financial advisory firm that works on business approaches to solving societal challenges.

Milan Wahi Milan Wahi Managing Director, Lotte India Corporation Batch : PRM-10 | Sector : FMCG

Mr. Milan Wahi has been Executive Director and Managing Director of Lotte India Corp. Ltd. since September 2016.

This is his second stint with Lotte. His first tenure as MD at Lotte was from 2012 to 2014.

Milan has over 25 years of experience in various consumer sectors like FMCG and consumer durables. In his previous roles, he has served as the Business Head at Kenstar, Chief Executive Officer of J K Dairy and Managing Director of Lotte India Corporation. He has also worked in leadership positions in other reputed companies such as Cavin Kare, VST Industries Whirlpool India and Cavinkare.

Nitin Puri Nitin Puri Senior President & Country Head FASAR at Yes Bank Batch : PRM-20 | Sector : BFSI

Mr. Puri graduated in Mechanical Engineering from NIT Kurukshetra. He followed it up with a Post-Graduate Diploma in Rural Management from Institute of Rural Management, Anand (IRMA) and an Advanced Management Program in Agribusiness from Cornell University. Prior to his laudatory work with YES BANK, he has also worked in senior management positions with organizations like ITC, Aditya Birla Nuvo, MCX & Reliance Retail.

He has undertaken various thought-leadership initiatives besides providing cutting-edge advisory and innovative financing solutions across segments in the agricultural value chain. These were mostly founded in villages and his several path-breaking initiatives in India, especially those in the area of cold storages, has benefitted numerous people.

Sivakumar Surampudi Sivakumar Surampudi CEO – Agri & IT businesses at ITC Batch : PRM-2 | Sector : FMCG

S Sivakumar oversees Agri and IT Businesses of the Company. He was the Divisional Chief Executive of the Agri Business Division till November 2017. He is the Chairman of Technico Agri Sciences Limited, and Vice Chairman of ITC Infotech India Limited and its subsidiaries in the UK and USA.

The e-Choupal initiative was developed and executed under Sivakumar's leadership of the Agri Business Division.

Sivakumar is the Chairman of the National Agricultural Council of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Vice Chairman of the World Economic Forum's Global Agenda Council on Social Innovation, and a member on the Board of Governors of Institute of Rural Management, Anand (IRMA)

Nayana RenuKumar Nayana RenuKumar Global Policy Manager, Airbnb Experiences Batch : PRM-27 | Sector : Hospitality

Nayana is an experienced public policy professional with a demonstrated history of working in the internet industry. She is skilled at policy analysis and advocacy, negotiation, team building, and management with a Masters in Public Administration from Harvard University, John F. Kennedy School of Government, after her PGDRM from IRMA.

Nayana was the co-chair of the India Conference at Harvard 2016, where she contributed to overall leadership and management of the Conference.

Before AirBnB and Harvard, Nayana has worked for six years with the Centre for Good Governance.

Ashutosh Chadha Ashutosh Chadha Group Director Government Affairs and Public Policy at Microsoft India Sector : IT

Ashutosh is responsible for Government Relations, Policy and Regulatory Affairs at Microsoft India. In his career spanning 30 years, he has had extensive experience in Channel Management, Corporate Affairs & Policy, CSR, as well as Sales and Marketing. He has spoken at events hosted by World Bank, WTO, UNICEF, UNESCO as well as Academic Institutions. He is passionate about advocating the use of technology for socio-economic development and through education, innovation and entrepreneurship.

He believes that IRMA was a key game changer for him as it provided me the basic grounding of looking at problems holistically as well as an appreciation of focusing on the benefit of the underserved and citizen in general as the ultimate goal for business.

Bindu Ananth Bindu Ananth Board Chair, Dvara Group of Companies (formerly known as IFMR Group) Batch : PRM-20 | Sector : BFSI

Bindu Ananth is co-founder and Board Chair of the Dvara Group of companies. Prior to this, she worked with ICICI Bank for seven years as a founding member of its microfinance practice, leading the design of ICICI Bank’s direct origination programme for micro-finance institutions (MFIs) and India’s first rainfall index insurance product.

In 2007, with the help of Nachiket Mor, who was heading ICICI Foundation, she set up IFMR Capital as an intermediary to bring capital to MFIs. Today, IFMR Capital has facilitated loans to the extent of Rs 40,000 crore which, in turn, have helped a lot of low-income people get access to easy credit. Mor, now country director, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, says he had seen an early spark in Ananth.

Bindu has been featured in the Forbes W-Power Trailblazers 2017.

Bindu is an Executive Committee Member at CGAP and a Member of the Taskforce of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI).

Praveen Morchhale Praveen Morchhale National Award – winning Filmmaker Batch : PRM-12 | Sector : Film-making

An alumnus of IRMA, Praveen started his directorial journey with “Barefoot to Goa” that was released to critical acclaim.

His second feature film “Walking with the wind” won three national awards. It has been selected to prestigious film festivals around the world. Apart from this, it was also officially selected for London Indian Film Festival, Colombian International Film Festival for Youth, CMS International Film Festival to name a few.

He believes simplicity is the pivotal virtue of his films which are suffused with honest emotions and riveting images.

Angshu Mallick Angshu Mallick Chief Operating Officer, Adani Wilmar Batch : PRM-5 | Sector : FMCG

Mr. Angshu Mallick is the Chief Operating Officer at Adani Wilmar Ltd.

He has played an instrumental role in Fortune brand of cooking oil becoming the most preferred brand of cooking oil across the country.
