The Institute of Public Enterprise (IPE) came into being in the year 1964 as an autonomous non-profit society to study policies on issues related to public enterprises. During the early 60s, when public enterprises were the primary means of serving the socio-economic development objectives, this institute was established to collect information on them, study various issues and conduct training and consultancy for these organizations. It was in 1980 that it ventured into management education, through a 3 year part time MBA programme.
It has come a long way over the past 5 decades and has evolved into a reputed management institution engaged in multiple management related activities today. IPE believes that the only way learning can bear fruits is when it is reinforced with regular practice and experience. The institute has a solid tradition of nurturing thorough professionals who are capable of facing the challenges of modern-day corporate world after completing their course. One of the ways this is accomplished is by giving them industrial exposure during their summer internships. Apart from that, the students receive regular inputs from industry professionals who visit IPE on a regular basis, to attend various conferences and seminars. All this adds a lot of value to the overall education of the students.
The summer internship happens during the final stages of the 2nd semester, when students have to intern in their respective functional areas, thereby relating theoretical learnings to practical experiences. An expert panel reviews their projects in the end and conducts viva voce to examine their learnings. As a result, when the students pass out from the institute, they are completely industry-ready and capable of taking on any challenges.
