Study Plan for MAT exam
MAT being a knowledge-based test with objective-type test pattern, will examine your general aptitude across following parameters:
- Language Comprehension
- Mathematical Skills
- Data Analysis & Sufficiency
- Intelligence & Critical Reasoning
- Indian & Global Environment
Since the aspect of negative marking exists, you need to be watchful and wise, and formulate a strategy to qualify the cut offs for each section. Hence, a decent level of preparation would suffice for this objective.
It is strictly advisable to follow a step-by-step process :
1) Clear you basic Math’s Concepts
2) Work on your vocabulary
3) Develop the habit of reading
Newspapers, Magazines and TV can be a great help here as well. Magazines not necessarily should be on politics or business.
4) Reasoning skills can be improved by solving puzzles
6) Revise
Tackling each Section
Verbal Ability section of MAT is pure comprehension. This is the area of concern for most students while we think it is an opportunity in disguise as this section, like the DI section, will help you score very high. Once you understand one paragraph, you will be able to answer 4 to 5 question based on the same Passage. It not only saves time but also gives you a lot of confidence. Only thing that can help you here is reading and reading a lot.
ENGLISH :
Practicing from previous question papers of MAT will be the best way to get an idea of this section.
REASONING :
But, you should also be very attentive and careful as the speed breaker questions, most of the times, are in this section only.
The DI section of MAT consists of conventional data interpretation like graphs and charts with questions based on finding percentage increase or decrease. This section, in particular, gives you the opportunity to score as high as you can because if you interpret even one table or graph, you can correctly answer 4 to 5 questions following it.
DATA ANALYSIS AND SUFFICIENCY (DI) :
The quantitative section of MAT checks your basic knowledge of math and that is why MAT Test has relatively easy math sums as compared to other exams, except probability and permutations which may prove difficult. Generally the paper can be solved with some patience and a lot of practice. So, as mentioned earlier - stick to basics.
MATHS :
For cracking MAT, it is really essential for you to attempt and score in each section. It should always be kept in mind that scoring very high in one section and very low in the other will affect your overall percentile. So, to have a balance is very essential.
