“Know yourself, then choose what you want to do.” second day of the ongoing orientation programme of Indian Institute of Management Raipur (IIM Raipur) commenced with these inspiring words of Swamy VyomapadaDasji, ISKCON, Bhilai. He enlightened students about the importance of “Values and Ethics in Professional Life”. He also advised them to lead a life that is value driven so as to achieve completeness in their professional and personal lives. His wisdom and profound understanding of the human condition especially in the context of the present generation resonated with the audience.

The students were also guided on the ways to manage their time in the coming roller-coaster ride of two years by Prof. Vinita Sahay, Chairperson FPM, IIM Raipur. She gave students a simple formula to manage their time which is to prioritise things coming in their day-to-day life and said when you prioritise, things become much simpler to tackle. 
    
For making students familiar with the current expectations of the corporates from the budding managers,they were exposed to a Panel Discussion on ‘Expectations of the Corporate from Budding Managers,’ which was moderated by Prof. Sanjeev Prashar, Chairman Placements, IIM Raipur.For the panel discussion, eminent corporate personalities like Mr. Ram Gopal, COO, Barclays; Mr. Anil Mathur, COO, Godrej & Boyce and Mr. Santosh Bhave, Senior VP HR, Bharat Forge were invited on campus.

Mr. Santosh Bhave, Senior VP HR, Bharat Forge, admitted with contentment that the alumni of IM Raipur have climbed up the corporate ladder in Bharat Forge very fast. He also kept his expectations from the budding managers and said that the corporate expects managers who can construct, connect, create and maintain a product/brand. He said, "we expect basic behavioural ethics, managing yourselves and the company, aligning yourselves to cater to the requirements of the company and ability to articulate yourselves and manage your teams” – he said. 

Mr. Anil Mathur, COO, Godrej & Boyce, startedwith the words that every company needs budding entrepreneurs. Inducing the spirit of Entrepreneurship in the students, he said, “Entrepreneurs look at the purpose as a whole and align with it. They bring in a vision and purpose that every company seeks.” Encouraging the students to look at the company in a wholesome manner,he urged the students to constantly upgrade their knowledge as it added value not only to oneself but also to the company. He also stressed the importance of smart and hard work in the corporate. “Not succumbing to pressure and imbibing the learning and working smart and hard is what a company values” he said.

Ram Gopal, COO, Barclays talked of the need of soft-skills and behavioural development which distinguished men from boys. “In corporate, your approach towards a problem is important and your work differentiates you from the rest” he said. Emphasizing on the importance of global exposure he said, “Global exposure is much needed as it helps the leaders generate intellectual and diverse ideas. One has to have the willingness to learn and interact with different cultures.”

Following the inspiring sessions, the students were engaged in a series of outbound activities. The activities were aimed at building leadership and team spirit among the new students.These activities consist of a variety of tasks designed to develop group members and their ability to work together effectively. They aim to strengthen interpersonal relationships between group members, break up the monotony, and get the creative juices flowing. The students thoroughly enjoyed this course of experiential learning through real life simulations. The day ended with several team building activities conducted by Praxis-EL.

SidharthSachdeva, B.Com Honors from University of Delhi As an entrepreneur working out of my home city, Ludhiana, I realized the need to enhance my skills to grow and expand my family business.
