Notable Alumni of Goa Institute of Management

It has been a remarkable year for the Goa Institute of Management. On 2nd August 2018, GIM turned 25 years old. Since its inception in 1993, GIM has come a long way in terms of the quality of management education, facilities and exposure it provides to its students. The Silver Jubilee celebrations began with the blessings and keynote address by H.H. The 14th Dalai Lama. An exciting mix of celebratory events, new launches, and insightful engagements are planned for the entire year. GIM is ranked among the top 15 private B-schools in India.

The Chinese scholar Confucius righty said, ‘Cultivate the root; the leaves and branches will take care of themselves.’ The roots of the students at GIM are thoroughly nourished, and what keeps its students going on is that their learning never stops. The ever-growing GIM family consists of 3000+ influential alumni across 15 countries around the globe. The Student Alumni Relations Cell plays a pivotal role in maintaining a relationship between the current students, alumni, and faculty.

Shilpa Gulati Shilpa Gulati Country HR Operations Manager IKEA USA Batch : 1996-98

Shilpa, a 1998 pass-out, was the first woman CFO at the global retail giant IKEA and the first Indian at the position. However, due to chronic illness (cancer), she had to voluntarily give it up for the best of interest of the organization. Despite all odds, this did not deter her from pursuing her professional dreams. She has been bravely fighting the disease, managing her family and is still on the path of seeking excellence in leadership, management processes, and change management. She specializes in Business operations, Forecast analysis, Budgeting, Profit and Loss Management, and Business Plan Creation and Execution.

Shilpa Gulati Anant Sandhu Director, Delhi Dance Academy Batch : 2006-08

Anant is a very special alumnus of GIM and the most recent on our list. After completing his post-graduation from GIM and a couple of jobs here and there, he concluded that a typical corporate lifestyle was not his calling. He was keen on trying his hands on a physical business and thus took up the challenge in the form of Delhi Dance Academy (DDA). DDA was a small dance academy in South Delhi. Under his leadership and expertise, it has grown to be Delhi’s no.1 dance and fitness school and in 2014 was conferred the “Best Dance Academy in Delhi.” He credits the two years he spent at GIM with his peers, seniors, and faculty as a stepping stone to where he is today.

Prasenjit Das Purkayastha Prasenjit Das Purkayastha Market Researcher, Trainer, Teacher Batch : 1996-98

Prasenjit is an independent trainer and teacher in the field of market research. Before this, he has worked for 13 years in various leadership roles with companies like Nielsen and IMRB. He is a distinguished alumnus of GIM and completed his PGDM, Marketing in 1998. He is also a visiting professor, recruiter, part of admission panels of GIM. He recently took a session in August 2018 as part of Hangouts 2018 which was organized by the Students Alumni Relations Cell.

Nisheeth Mishra Nisheeth Mishra Service Delivery Director, Accenture Batch : 1997-99

Nisheeth completed his PGDM, General Management in 1999 and has leadership experience of more than 19 years with biggies like NIIT, Satyam, Spicejet Ltd, Hindustan Times, and Accenture. He has worked in various domains such as automotive, aviation, technology, and consulting. He specializes in business consulting & solutions delivery, program management, scaled operations management, customer engagement, and technology solutions. He exemplifies fundamental skills he learned as a student at GIM- teamwork, encapsulate strengths of others, offer help before demanding assistance, and do not fear the unknown.

Mario Aranha Mario Aranha Vice President HSBC Batch : 1994-96

Mario was an alumnus from the 2nd batch of GIM when the institute was still trying to carve a niche for itself in the management education space. He has an extensive 18 years experience in Transaction Banking & Cash Management. He specializes in Cash Management, Transaction Banking, Fund Management, Liquidity Planning, and Project Management. He has been associated with the Kotak Mahindra Bank and HSBC. He fondly remembers that the faculty at GIM taught him to sensitize and humanize the management solutions he comes up in the real world.

Dhiresh Britto Dhiresh Britto Senior G&A Platforms Manager (HR & Headcount), Microsoft Batch : 1996-98

Ever since he graduated from GIM in 1998, Dhiresh has been associated with a wide range of HR innovations and initiatives in both IBM and Microsoft, especially in the spectrum of e-HR, technology applications in HR problem solving, and IT-enabled HR Service Delivery. Of all things, he has learnt he particularly reminiscences the courses in Production and Operations Management by Mr. Costabir at GIM. He believes that these courses taught him immensely about teamwork and he got an opportunity to learn about life in general. He acknowledges Mr. Costabir’s assessment methodology to be a tool he uses in his real life too.

Samarjeet Singh Samarjeet Singh CEO & Co-Founder, Iksula Batch : 1995-97

Samarjeet has almost 20 years of experience in the direct consumer business. He currently has a workforce of 650 people in his company Iksula, an e-Retail Strategy Consultancy. Before this, he was part of the leadership team of e-Comm giant eBay (Bazee.com absorbed by eBay) and also served as the Dean at eBay University. He confesses he always had an entrepreneurial bent of mind and visited the campus as part of the Grand Alumni Meet in 2016. He spoke at length to students about entrepreneurship from a student’s perspective.

Rohit Singh Rohit Singh CEO at Daakiyaa Marketing and logistics Batch : 1994-96

Rohit is one of the earlier alumni of GIM and passed out in 1996. Since then he has built his experience around the marketing domain and has worked with companies like Pernod Ricard, Dr. Lal PathLabs, BVM Minerals, and InorqTechnologies. He is now the CEO and MD at Daakiya Marketing and Logistics. He belongs to the first batch to study at the Ribandar campus of the institute and fondly remembers that a lot of processes were set up by him and his peers. This experience helped him set up methods and systems at Daakiyaa as well. He believes those who cease to learn, eventually cease to exist.

Sameer Batra Sameer Batra CEO, Wynk Ltd. Batch : 1998-2000

Sameer completed his PGDM in Marketing in the year 2000 and has an experience of more than to 16 years in business management. He has worked across geographies in Sales, Marketing, Product management & driving large-scale business operations. He has been associated with names like BP Mobile, Airtel and for the last one year is the CEO at Wynk Ltd, a start-up owned by Bharti Airtel. The three takeaways that he has taken from the two years he has spent at GIM are- “Teamwork, a clear sense of purpose, and being prepared.”

Rituparna Chakraborty Rituparna Chakraborty Co-Founder- EVP at TeamLease Services Ltd. Batch : 1997-99

Rituparna has seen tremendous career growth in the field of staffing and recruitment. After finishing her PGDM in Marketing in 1999, she went on to join India Client Hewitt Ltd as a Client Manager. Subsequently, she joined Monster.com after which she became the Founder Trustee of the Indian Staffing Federation. She is now the co-founder and Executive Vice President at TeamLease Services Ltd. Of the many things she learned and experienced at GIM, the late night quizzes, overnight project completion, the 5 mark bombshells in the name of short quizzes are what prepared her to be the professional she is today. She has many feathers in her cap-

Perry Goes Perry Goes Chief Strategy Officer at United Breweries Ltd.

Perry is a distinguished alumnus of GIM. He spent a considerable amount of time working on Strategic Planning & Business Analytics at United Breweries Ltd. Recently he was promoted to be the Chief Strategy Officer.

He has expertise in Implementation & Evaluation; Consumer Insights; Management Information & Control Systems; Business Incubation & Business Development. He believes his alma mater has played a crucial role in landing him where he is today.
