Indian Institute of Management Raipur offers learning experiences beyond the scope of classroom teaching.Moving on with this tradition IIM Raipur has taken the initiative of starting a new programme entitled ‘Thought and Leadership’ which will include series of lectures by eminent personalities from the corporate world to share their leadership and managerial experiences.
This programme was inaugurated by Mr. Sudhir Vasudeva, Chairman and Managing Director, ONGC.He started off with a thought provoking note on what are we doing to transform India and how do we think we can make India a superpower. He further stated that by Superpower, we donot mean India to be ahead of other nations in population or military power, instead our country should be Superpower in expertise, skill set and knowledge.
He appealed to the students of IIM Raipur that they being the lucky few to carry their education at India’s most premier institute and hold the responsibility to fortify the nation to become a super power in coming years. He further delivered on meeting the huge demands of the nation, thereby stressing on low number of jobs for the entire nation. There is a grave need to garner this strength of man power and entrepreneurship is the only solution to fight this issue in today’s scenario.
The idea should be to convert knowledge and skill of individuals into entrepreneurs and job creators. One shouldn’t be deterred by the challenges and hard times to be faced in taking these bold steps of live. It is only when one faces challenge; these challenges are moulded to formulate success out of them.
According to Shri Vasudeva, growth should always be inclusive. The word “profit” has not been appreciated a lot. There should be value creation and more than that the value should be social in nature. ONGC specifically takes utmost care to give back to the society every year in every possible way.
He further discussed about the struggles he had to face as he belonged to a very modest family and was a part of Raigarh city where schooling those days was not advanced. He did his engineering from NIT Raipur and joined ONGC way back in 1975. From there he never looked back and it is because of his strive for excellence he reached the pinnacle of ONGC.
He focussed on trying out perfection in every walk of life. By doing things perfectly, an individual becomes a role model for others in the organisation and slowly the entire organisation becomes a role model for the country.
Later there were series of interjections from the students to which Mr Vasudeva replied and gave a new perspective to the audience.
Prof. B.S. Sahay, Direcor, Indian Institute of Management, Raipur extended a warm welcome to the guests and thanked him for sparing his valuable time.
Overall, the inaugural session of “Thought Leadership Programme” became a grand success and students felt highly motivated after listening to the inspiring words from Shri Vasudeva.
