PGP – International Management – The Twinning Programme Offered at MDI Gurgaon

If you look at how different economies across the world performed over the last few years, you’d realize that it’s for the first time since the Great Depression that they came to terms with their vulnerabilities to global economic forces. Experts everywhere have accused greed, competition, irrational fear and globalization as the potential causes of putting them in such a risky situation.

Today, no matter what a company’s size may be or how big may be its scale of operations, it can’t sustain for long unless it expands its horizons. Simply put, globalization has become a strategic imperative and is not an option anymore. Furthermore, international businesses in India have moved far beyond mere exports and imports, or how foreign companies invest into the Indian markets. Nowadays, Indian companies are emerging as potent forces in the international markets.

Therefore, it is imperative for today’s managers to be sufficiently equipped with appropriate skills and abilities to deliver results across different geographies. In addition, terms like profit maximization, market share and competition are transitioning into sustainability, collective value and co-opetition.

It’s keeping all these changing dynamics in mind that the Post Graduate Programme in International Management (PGP-IM) was launched by MDI Gurgaon in the year 2006. A rather futuristic and first-of-its-kind management programme in India, its main objective was to enable students to look at the bigger picture as well as the dynamics associated with it. The idea was to nurture future leaders and managers with a global mindset, who could appreciate the different cultural, legal, political and economic realities of the world, and create networks across different countries, apart from living and working with people from diverse backgrounds.

Key Objectives

MDI

The primary objectives of MDI Gurgaon’s PGP-IM are to groom global leaders who have:

  • The ability to work and deliver results in new markets
  • Competencies to work efficiently across cultures
  • Adequate grounding in multiple management functions
  • Solid general management abilities

The program is presently run jointly with ESCP Europe Business School that was ranked 2nd in all of Europe by the Financial Times last year. Having been established in the year 1819, ESCP Europe is the world’s oldest Business School today.

MDI Gurgaon’s PGP-IM is a dual degree program that is completed partially at the MDI Gurgaon’s campus and partially in any of the ESCP campuses across Europe (in Berlin, Warsaw, Paris, Madrid and London). The students are awarded an additional degree of Master in Management (MIM), provided they complete the minimum number of credits and also fulfil some other conditions. This is apart from the Post Graduate Diploma in Management (International Management) awarded to them in India by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), which is recognized as an MBA equivalent degree by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU)

Pedagogy

The program makes use of multiple pedagogical tools like role plays, simulations, discussions, case studies and lectures during the classroom sessions. The students are given direct exposure to workplace situations through internships and consultancy projects in different companies. The program is attended by an integrated batch comprising of MDI and ESCP Europe students. Such integration facilitates close interactions between students, helping them develop tolerance, appreciation and understanding of cultural differences and equips them with skills to work in global environments.
