To gain MBA admission into top business schools, you need to be academically bright. Students are shortlisted in a number of stages. First and foremost, students are shortlisted based on their CAT, XAT, MAT, CMAT, NMAT, SNAP, IIFT score.

Top business schools place a lot of emphasis on these entrance exams; so, make it a point to study hard to score well in these exams. These exams are competitive in nature; so, you need to be in the top percentile to get selected for the next stage of the MBA admission process.

In the next stage, the admissions team looks into the scores of candidates for their 10th, 12th and Bachelor’s degree exams. If the candidate has completed a Master’s degree, the team will look into this score too.

So, once again students whose scores meet the criteria for the aforementioned exams are selected for the next stage of the admission process. Apart from placing emphasis on academic excellence, top business schools also look at a candidate’s local work experience, and international work experience, if any. MBA programmes in top business schools focus on project work and case studies. So, candidates should have prior knowledge of business environments.

Students with sufficient work experience get selected for a personal interview. Here, a candidate’s communication skills are tested. Once you graduate from a business school, you will get into managerial positions, where you will be required to lead your subordinates.

An effective manager is someone who has good communication and interpersonal skills. So, communication skills form yet another criterion for eligibility into top business schools.

During the personal interview, interviewers find out if a candidate has been involved in extra-curricular activities, which demonstrates his/her leadership skills.

So, to gain admission into top business schools, one has to stand out from the rest and be in the top percentile in all aspects – academia, leadership and communication skills, and work experience.
