FLAME University kicks-off Econvention 2016 in Pune

First ever Economic Fest across colleges

FLAME University, the pioneer in Liberal Arts Education in India recently hosted Econvention 2016, a first of its kind economic fest held on campus in Pune on Saturday 10th Dec and Sunday 11th Dec 2016. The two day fest focused on blending theoretical knowledge with its practical application in engaging and interesting ways.

Econvention 2016 witnessed huge participation from students across colleges participating in events and guest lectures. The event was attended by industry veterans and respected academicians providing the students a chance to interact and learn from the best. It was graced by Mr. Rajesh Shah, Vice President - Finance, Adani Group; Prof. G.S. Gupta, formerly IIM Ahmedabad and author of several textbooks in economics and Mr. Kumar Shailabh, Executive Director at Uplift India Association.

Mr. Rajesh Shah, VP- Finance, Adani said, “It was a refreshing experience to spend time with the future leaders. Today’s generation is not only well aware but is also willing to learn and adapt newer methods for the betterment of the society. I am grateful to FLAME University for giving me a chance to be at Econvention 2016 and am positive this will grow into one of the most sought after inter-college events in the future”.

Prof. GS Gupta, formerly IIM Ahmedabad and author of several economic textbooks said, "Such fests are good because they bring experts. You learn from them and they learn from you. You develop contacts, which is very important. You show your skills and qualities and others' qualities and you get motivated.

Kumar Shailabh, Director Executive, Uplift India Association said, "I think this is a great initiative and a good beginning. It can be enriched by providing material to the audience to go through before the talks."

Kshipra Unde, a student participant from MMCC mentioned, “It's an amazing concept, I've never seen anything like it at a college fest before. I had a lot of fun.” Another student participant, Mohammed Kothambawala from Ness Wadia College, said, “It was a good event. Quality of debate was engaging. Definitely makes me want to participate in more debates.”

Econvention 2016 not only served as a unique learning platform, but also acted as a forum to share experiences, which in turn educated participants in locating their academic skill sets in their application in real world situations. With a multi–disciplinary approach towards education, this event provided an opportunity for students to foster quick thinking and expertise contributing to overall development.

The dignitaries gave talks on various topics like project funding and how it affects the economy, Economics of Demonetization: Barter to Digital, Health Financing in India, and many more interesting issues. This further helped the participants enhance their knowledge and skills through various simulated economic situations and discuss new opinions and ideas.

FLAME University provides an environment that is conducive to evolving new knowledge and encourages the assimilation, dissemination, and generation of new ideas. It stimulates the latent curiosity in every individual, encourages students to challenge the status quo.
