T. A. Pai Management Institute (TAPMI), Manipal, organized the two-day mega conclave, DISHA 2012, during September 08-09, 2012, centered on the critical corporate function of Human Resources. Declared open by Padma Vibhushan Dr M.S.Valiathan, National Research Professor, Manipal University, the conclave witnessed the participation of eminent HR professionals from major corporates such as Oracle Financial Services, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, Dr Reddy’s Labs, Tata Consultancy Services and Nomura Financial services.
Chief Guest for the inauguration, Dr Valiathan, mentioned the debilitating problems faced by the country across various sectors. Dividing those problems into Access, Quality and Innovation, he stressed that technology is the best way forward for successful resolution of the same, thus setting the theme of the conclave, ‘Technology and Human Resources’.
The enlightening inauguration ceremony was immediately followed by an engaging panel discussion on ‘Leveraging Technology to build Human Capital’ with participation from Mr. Madhukar Kapoor, Head Recruitments, Oracle Financial Services Software Ltd, Mr K Nagaraj, Deputy General Manager – HR at Lanco, Udupi Power Corporation Ltd, Mr. Saumen Chakraborty, President and Global Head of Quality, HR and IT, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd and Prof P.S. James, Area Chair of HR, TAPMI.
The discussion saw a healthy debate on how technology is leveraged to improve recruitment, retention, training and succession. The discussions also ventured into the use of technology to help the corporates ‘Go Green’ and become environment friendly. The discussion also saw an enlightening question answer session, by the interested audience.
The day concluded with a second panel discussion on how technology is being used for effective performance management in the corporates. This discussion saw the participation of Mr. Ashis Sen, Internal coach, HPCL, Mr. Arijit Pal Choudhury,VP and Head Compensation India, Nomura Services India Pvt Limited, Mr. Himanshu R. Saxena, Vice President and Head, Strategy Alignment and Leadership Management, Tata Consultancy Services and Prof Vedantam Krishnan, TAPMI. This debate ventured into various technological aspects of performance appraisal, monitoring, review and improvement. Various aspects were discussed threadbare, with the audience participating with full enthusiasm.
The second day consisted of a series of guest lectures by the eminent guests in topics ranging from Strategy implementation and Planning, traits of self-management, etc. The management students were addressed in separate batches who in turn responded enthusiastically. The guest lectures were followed by two events: Expositus - A case presentation event and Vrondi - a mock press event which again saw great participation of the students.
Disha 2012 concluded on a high note with the valedictory function where the designer of the logo and winners were honoured and the guests were thanked with all sincerety for making the event a grand success.
