"Indifferent attitude is changing social matrix"

The social matrix shows how an individual is connected to the society, the community and the public. An individual’s actions affect the dynamics of a society. Similarly, if rules of a community and a society change, an individual’s actions will be altered. So, when an individual or a group of individuals are indifferent towards certain rules of a society, the dynamics of the social matrix will change.

For example, if a group of individuals are indifferent towards the culture of their society, which binds them together, their community will crumble. Today, we see that the younger generation is indifferent towards the traditions and the culture of the society. This is slowly resulting in the disintegration of the social structure. In Asian societies, children are indifferent towards the problems that their ageing parents are facing. This has led to an increase in the number of nuclear families over the years.

In India, people have lost trust in the government. They have become indifferent towards the laws of the country because they believe that India’s legal system will only empower the rich and not the poor. In December, a rape victim committed suicide because the police was not keen on helping her. Instead, the police was keen on helping the criminals. Incidents similar to this case have led to the public losing faith and trust in the legal system. Hence, people have become indifferent towards the government because they feel that certain systems in the country will not change despite protests. This is resulting in the disintegration of the ties that bind an individual to the government, resulting in more people taking legal matters into their own hands.

With an increasing level of affluence in the world, people have stopped caring about the environment. Although non-governmental organizations are trying to instill social responsibility into the hearts of individuals, people have become indifferent towards environmental protection and degradation. This is once again changing the dynamics of the social system in which we live. By becoming self-absorbed, we are breaking ties not only with our surroundings but also fellow human beings.

It is sad that our indifferent attitude towards fellow human beings, our family and the environment is causing immense problems in the social system. Not only is our attitude altering the social matrix for the worse, it is causing the pillars of our community and society to disintegrate. To prevent further damage, it is important to show commitment towards our society and address the pressing issues at hand today.
