“Parivartan 2016” organized at XIMB
"Parivartan", the first Business Conclave organized by CONXERV, the Sustainability Management Association of XIMB, XUB took place at Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar on Sunday. The event aimed at addressing the need for sustainability based approach in business practices through designed thinking and thus bringing a social revolution for a better world. The speakers for the event were Mr. Tapan Sahoo, Senior VP (Engineering, Research, Design and Development), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd,Mr. Sandeep Mohanty, Director (Process Innovation), Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd, and Mr. Partho Deb, Energy Consultant GE Energy Management.
The event commenced with the lighting of the ceremonious lamp and a welcome address by Dr. S. Peppin, Dean, Xavier School of Sustainability, XIMB-XUB.
The first speaker of the event was Mr Tapan Sahoo, who spoke about sustainability and innovation from the industry perspective. He discussed the performance of Maruti Suzuki from the economic, social and environmental perspective and highlighted the company’s alignment with sustainability through various measures. He also shared company’s efforts in adopting a cradle to cradle approach for all their operations. Concluding he said, “Sustainability starts with design and with customers.”
The second speaker of the day, Mr. Sandeep Mohanty, began with pointing out the importance of chemistry in everyday lives. He spoke about Green Chemistry- a branch of chemical engineering that reduces the use of hazardous products and processes. “Green Chemistry redefines optimal synthesis”, said Mr. Mohanty. He explained the significance of this discipline in curbing pollution, resource depletion and health hazards.
The third speaker of the day was Mr. Partho Deb. He spoke about Power to the 'People and Critical Smart Grid', a project he is currently involved in. It aims at empowering people by involving them in the planning process and development of Solar Energy. He said, “Can you utilize your own oil and gas reserves to arrive at a sustainable solution?” and advocated the need to move from technology based solution to infrastructure based solution. He discussed the development of renewable energy in India in the upcoming years.
The enriching session was followed by a question and answer session where students gained valuable insights from the speakers. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Professor Sutapa Pati.
