IIM Raipur welcomed its 9th Batch of Post Graduate Programme in Management and 7th Batch of Fellow Programme in Management on the first day of the Orientation programme held on 22nd June 2018 innervating the students on a new journey filled with new hopes and determinations.  The students got an opportunity to interact with the experts from academia and the learning from them would definitely help the students during their journey.


Prof. Bharat Bhasker, Director, IIM Raipur welcomed the whole PGP 2018-20 batch, motivating the students to follow their passion and shape their ideas accordingly. Prof. Bharat Bhasker has earned Master’s and Ph.D. from Virginia Tech, USA and has B.E. from IIT Roorkee. Earlier he served as Professor of Information Systems for 20 years at IIM Lucknow, where he pioneered and founded the Internet Commerce Research Centre in 1999. He is also in the Editorial Board and reviewer of several International Management Journals. In his inaugural address, he focused on the fact that progress is impossible without change and those who cannot change their mind cannot change anything.  He cited examples of the boom in the Semiconductor industry in 1960s and also explained Moore’s law of how technology doubles every two years. He further encouraged students to set goals to lead a balanced, successful life and undergo courses that will ignite their passion. Closing his address, he urged the students to imbibe skills to become a great leader by making best use of resources and atmosphere of the institute.

IIM Raipur

The Chief Guest of event was Shri Aman Kumar Singh, Principle Secretary to Honourable Chief Minister, Housing and Environment, Department of Information & Technology and Chairman – New Raipur Development Authority (NRDA). Mr. Singh is on the Board of Governors of several prominent institutions, IIT Kanpur and IIT Indore to name a few. In the past he has given a number of guest lectures to interact with students, most recently at Harvard. Mr. Singh welcomed the new batch by showcasing the development of the state of Chhattisgarh. In his address he stressed upon the need to continuously adapt to evolving technology. He said the any institution or individual risks the possibility of becoming obsolete if they don’t acquaint themselves with technology. Mr. Singh also enlightened the students about some of the major policies undertaken by the Government – one of the major being Right to skill upgrade which they expect would play a vital role in increasing the percentage of employable people in the state.


The Student Profile of the PGP batch was presented by Prof. S K Mitra, Chairman Admissions. The batch profile of IIM Raipur showed a significant improvement by having about 25 percent female students. This was followed by an address by Prof. Sumit Gupta, the FPM chairperson who welcomed the 7th batch of FPM students. Describing the profession of teaching, he called upon the new batch of the students to become a role model for society besides exceling in research work. Later, the first half of the session was concluded by an Introduction to the PGP program and the faculty by Prof. PRS Sarma, Chairman PGP.


The second half began with an interaction with Prof. Satyasiba Das, Chairman of Placement and Corporate Relations and also Chairman of International Relations. He talked about the giant strides IIM Raipur has made in the Corporate World in the last few years. He also explained the importance of exchange program as in today’s competitive world, getting exposure helps in the overall growth of an individual, getting exposed to different pedagogies of management education helps in attaining a global perspective which will be beneficial in the long run. Followed by a brief interaction by Prof. PRS Sarma, Chairman PGP, who has stressed upon discipline that helps students in achieving their set goals.


This was followed by a brief session with Prof. Samar Singh, Chairman – Anti Ragging Committee who talked about the zero-tolerance policy with regards to ragging of IIM Raipur


The second day of the Orientation Programme includes panel discussions to give the flavour of corporate life to the new batch. Eminent personalities from industry have been invited for the program. Also interactions with alumna of IIM’s is scheduled.


With all things in place for the new batch, IIM Raipur is once again all set to groom global leaders for the corporate world and high-quality researcher for the academic world.
