Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB) today successfully completed its three day Annual Sports fest – Athlos 6.0. In spite of cyclone “Hudhud” driving its way fast towards the eastern coast, the event witnessed great enthusiasm from players of various colleges in true athletic spirit. Dilip Tirkey, former Hockey player and now a Rajya Sabha member who was supposed to join as the chief guest for the event but couldn’t make it due to some urgent engagements shared his message for Athlos 2014 with his inspiring story in the field of hockey and wished good luck to all the students for the event.

The event kicked off with a formal launch of the meet, followed by a very inspiring event, X-Enable – An event for the differently abled children. X-Enable saw an active participation of 22 differently abled kids of an NGO “Aaina”, accompanied by their parents and teachers. The event comprised of events like lemon race, caroms, and musical chairs, watching these kids play was a proud and inspiring moment for the college. This great start to the event was followed by the series of other games.

The sport sessions then kicked off with an energetic warm up followed by an exciting football match between the students of XIMB and IMI, Bhubaneswar. Both the teams played in great spirit and Sanjeeban from the XIMB team scored two magnificent goals leading XIMB to a 6-0 win. The football series ended with a very interesting final between the XIMB students and the XIMB Alumni which closed on a tie calling for a penalty shootout. The XIMB Alumni team finally bagged the winning spot. The volleyball event saw great team spirit and zeal in the match between XIMB and IMI, Bhubaneswar, which XIMB went on to win in the end. The next volleyball match between the XIMB Alumni team and IMI, Bhubanewar was won by the XIMB alumni team and the one between the XIMB students and XIMB alumni was won by XIMB Students team. There were several other sports that followed post this, starting with a throwball match between XIMB and IMI, Bhubaneswar and after an exciting game, XIMB was declared the winner. The Badminton Men’s singles, Men’s doubles and Women’s singles matches were played between XIMB, BIMTech and XIMB Alumni, there was great encouragement and support for both sides with the crowd cheering at every point. XIMB Alumni spearheaded by Girish won the Men’s Single; XIMB’s Shristi won the Women’s Single, while Digant and Anup led XIMB to victory in the Men’s double title.
Amidst all of these energetic and lively games, XQuizzite-the Quizzing committee of XIMB conducted a Sports Quiz which had several challenging rounds and a large number of sport enthusiasts facing them. Samuel Koshi and Mirza Farhan from XIMB won the Quiz. Followed by this were sets of intense games of Table Tennis, Caroms and Chess. All the three indoor games saw great competition among all participants. The event was formally closed with an award ceremony in the presence of Fr. Tony Uvary, Associate Director, XIMB and Fr. V. Arockia Das, Coordinator of Student Affairs, XIMB.
The overall spirit of the event remained high in spite of the rough weather with a thundering sky and incessant rains. Each of the games had good support from the crowd and the sportsmanship of the players was commendable, there was mutual respect and appreciation for either side, irrespective of a win or a loss. To enable the students savour some delicious food through the event, Pizza Hut set up a stall inside the XIMB Campus. Adding further to the glory of the event, SPIC MACAY, XIMB chapter organized a Pottery workshop and also opened up a stall for sale of Diyas and lights for Diwali.
Athlos is the annual sports fest of XUB and XIMB conducted by the Sports association of XIMB- Sportscom. The event witnesses’ participation from several Colleges across the country for a three day fun filled experience. This year’s event was powered by Telegraph and Hero Xtreme, Sportskeeda was the online media partner, while 97.7 BIG FM was the radio partner. The students of XIMB are greatly passionate about sports and each student is actively involved in them, Sportscom helps to facilitate such enthusiasm from the students and provides all the support that the students of the University need to excel in various sports.
Xavier University, Bhubaneswar (XUB) was established in accordance with the Xavier University Act 2013 and was inaugurated on the 7th of July 2014. The university is a self-financing institution of higher learning for imparting professional and technical education.
