What is the difficulty level of the CAT exam?

After gathering feedback from students, it was found that verbal ability and reading comprehension are dominated by the maximum number of questions but had difficulty levels ranging from easy to moderate. The quantitative aptitude exam is a little tough, comparatively. So, if you are preparing for the CAT, brace yourself for the two types of questions that await you in the CAT 2023 exam: MCQs and non-MCQs. Each holds its own unique surprises and challenges.

First, let's tackle the MCQs, where a wrong answer incurs a negative marking. So, think twice before selecting your response; a wrong move could cost you a -1 mark. And the bad thing is that MCQs account for 70% to 75% of the exam.

On the flip side, the non-MCQ questions come with no negative marking. But make sure that only 25% to 28% of the total questions fall into this category. Moreover, every correct answer, regardless of the question type, earns you +3 marks. So hold that CAT 2022 question paper tight and make sure you are not losing that precious -1 mark anywhere.

What is the syllabus for CAT 2023?

Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC): The section of the CAT 2023 exam will have both MCQs and non-MCQ questions. There will be vocabulary- and grammar-based questions. Most questions come from jumbled paragraphs, para-summaries, and picking the odd sentence out of the jumbled sentences.

Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR): The DILR section of the CAT 2023 exam comprises a total of 20 questions. 75% of the total mark weightage is devoted to MCQs, whereas 25% is to non-MCQs. Data Caselets, Blood Relationships, Seating Arrangements, Tables, Graphs, and Puzzles on Words and Letters make up this section. But according to some students, it is quite time-consuming.

Quantitative Ability (QA): With 14–16 MCQs and 6–8 non-MCQ questions, QA makes up a total of 22 marks. However, most questions are based on arithmetic equations, such as percentage, work/days, profit and loss, time and speed, and compound interest.
