Renowned academician Padma Shri Dr. Pritam Singh passed away on 3rd June 2020, at a hospital in Gurugram. He succumbed to a cardiac arrest in the wee hours of the morning.

Dr. Singh’s loss will be felt for years to come in the field of management education. When the entire world, including the education sector, is witnessing an unprecedented disruption, institutions and academicians will immensely miss his guidance.

Midas Touch

Dr. Pritam Singh was known as the ‘Midas Touch’ Director. Under his leadership and vision, he transformed the fortunes of management institutions like IIM Lucknow (1998 – 2003), MDI Gurgaon (1994 – 98 and 2003 – 06), and International Management Institute (2011 – Oct 2014). The quality of education improved tremendously during his tenure. In his words, “Great B-schools are ones which are in the business of creation of knowledge, application of knowledge and dissemination of knowledge.”

Dr. Singh has also been associated with Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies (Honorary Director General), IIM Bangalore (Former Dean & Senior Professor), XLRI – Jamshedpur (Dean & Sr. Faculty, Administrative Staff College), Banaras Hindu University, and the University of Rajasthan in various capacities. 

Professional Expertise

Dr. Singh is known to have organized around 100 board level workshops (and retreats) and mentored close to 200 CEOs. He has served as Chairman and member of many policy-making committees. Dr. Singh was a distinguished member of Prime Minister’s empowered panel, where he was responsible for the selection of prominent institutions of India. A noted speaker, he addressed the Chambers of Commerce in Egypt, France, Greece, Germany, Holland, Mauritius Russia, Thailand, UK, and the USA, etc.

Awards & Recognitions

In 2003 Dr. Singh was awarded Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award, for his phenomenal contribution in the field of management education. Some of the other notable awards he has received are:  

  • FORE Award for the ‘Best Director of Management School’ in India
  • First Asian to be awarded the ‘Global Thought Leader’ by MIRBIS (the Russian School of Business in Moscow)
  • Ranked 27 out of 50 Indian Thinkers by Thinkers50

Books & Research Papers

Dr. Pritam Singh authored more than 60 research papers in international and national journals. He has authored critically acclaimed books like The Leadership Odyssey (2015), Millennials and the Workplace (2012), In Search of Change Maestros (2011), and Organizing and Managing in the Era of Globalization (2010).

RIP Dr. Singh

Dr. Pritam Singh was at present serving as CEO of LEAD Centre in Gurgaon. Well-known Management Cartoonist, Columnist, Author, and Speaker Shri Prriya Raj writes, “Sad news. He has always been at the forefront of management education in India. RIP.”

Dr. Singh is known to have touched the lives of many. He was a leader par excellence, thinker, mentor, entrepreneurial evangelist, and a favourite management guru. He is survived by his wife, two sons, a daughter and grandchildren.
