GMAT Focus Edition: Your Gateway to Your Dream B-School

If you are one of those students aspiring to pursue a management program from a top B-school abroad, attaining a higher score on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is your pivotal step.

Over the years, the GMAT exam has become a benchmark for evaluating a candidate's suitability for business studies. But just like the educational landscape changes, the creators realized the need for a more modernized version of the test.

As a result, the new face of GMAT—the GMAT Focus Edition—also being called the updated version—was introduced. Focus Edition aims to offer a more focused and specialized assessment of the candidates, which has seen massive acceptance by top B-schools worldwide.

Starting on February 1, 2024, the focus edition will be the only "GMAT version" you'll tackle. But what are its special features? Let's analyze.

top_companiesThe shortest GMAT exam ever

The GMAT Focus Edition introduces a notably shorter test duration. The exam will last 2 hours and 15 minutes instead of the current GMAT's 3 hours and 7 minutes, which feels quite exhausting.

However, this drop in the exam time primarily stems from the exam’s reconstruction. As we all know, the exam is now split into three 45-minute sections: quantitative reasoning, verbal reasoning, and the newly introduced data insights section.

Traditionally, in the GMAT classic, the Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA) section accounted for nearly an hour, which has been omitted in the new version, making the entire testing process more efficient for candidates.

The new addition, "Data Insights", is a condensed version of integrated reasoning and data sufficiency, which further alleviates test-taking fatigue, enabling candidates to sustain optimal performance throughout the examination.

The streamlined time duration and almost identical questions in each section offer a more time-sensitive testing experience for a GMAT scorer.

factorsPersonalized Insights

The traditional GMAT was good, but candidates should expect an even higher level of personalization for the GMAT Focus Edition. Individualized insights can be extremely helpful in shaping future study plans and improving test-taking effectiveness in general. With this in mind, GMAC presents Focus Edition with added features, such as

  1. Flexible Exam Order

Flexible exam order is one of the unique features that gives applicants the freedom to complete exam sections in whatever sequence they believe is suitable. Examinees can maximize their performance plan because of the change from the traditional fixed order. With this strategic adaptability, applicants can take the test in a way that best suits their interests.

  1. Bookmark and modify answers.

Candidates on the GMAT Focus Edition can flag particular problems for additional review. With the help of this feature, people can go back and evaluate difficult questions before deciding how to respond to them. Furthermore, the flexibility to change responses for a maximum of three questions in each section adds a degree of flexibility and allows applicants to hone their selections after a more thorough analysis of the information that has been provided.

  1. Selective Score Transmission

The GMAT Focus Edition introduces a significant break from conventional standards by giving candidates the choice of when to submit their scores. This change enables individuals to assess their performance before submitting the exam. The technique allows candidates to showcase their best performance when sharing their GMAT results with business schools or other institutions. This aligns with a more planned and informed approach to score reporting.

  1. Enhanced Official Score Report

As part of the registration package, the GMAT Focus Edition offers an upgraded Official Score Report, improving candidates' value proposition. This extensive report is anticipated to provide candidates with performance insights, providing a greater understanding of how they performed in many areas. This free addition significantly enhances the testing experience by giving applicants access to practical information.
