A FILM BY STUDENTS OF MICA’s CCC PROGRAMME MAKE IT TO THE TOP 40 NOMINEE LIST OF INDIA FILM PROJECT’s 50-HOUR FILMMAKING CHALLENGE

MICA Ahmedabad

A film made by a team of students of the Crafting Creative Communication (CCC) programme at MICA, Ahmedabad, has made it to the top 40 nominee list of the India Film Project's (I.F.P.) 50-Hour Filmmaking Challenge.
The 6-minute film, ' F.M.L.', was nominated in the top 40 out of 1680 teams and over 31,000 filmmakers from 304 cities across 19 countries.
I.F.P.'s 50-Hour Filmmaking Challenge is the world's largest filmmaking challenge for professional filmmakers, production houses, aspiring directors, filmmaking enthusiasts and students to conceptualize and create a short film from scratch within a deadline of 50 hours.

A team of eight students of the CCC programme shot the entire film on the lush-green campus of MICA on the theme ‘The Best Advice’, within 50 hours. The competition mandated the teams to choose any one genre out of Humour, DocuDrama, Alternate History, or Sports and the story had to be based on the best advice one could have received, which led to life-changing events.
MICA students chose comedy as the genre under the 'Amateur' category of the challenge, which was open to everyone.

Sharing his experience, Govind Pillai, the Director of the film, said, "The 50 hours we spent thinking, jamming, fighting, disagreeing and pouring our heart and soul into making this film is the perfect description of what we do here at MICA CCC. We push boundaries, and ourselves, to create something we can proudly call our own. Even though we did not make it to the podium, the experience of working with these creative minds and competing with teams across the globe has been thrilling."

Speaking about the film, Yaquta Bootwala, the Editor of the film, said, "These 50 hours were not only about making the film, but they were a true test of our time management skills, team coordination and passion for the craft.
We fought through ideas, pulled off sleepless nights and almost abandoned the project. But the one thing that kept us going was the team spirit between us, and there was always someone trying to push through every hour to make sure we had this film ready in time. Nothing was more exciting than sitting together at the end, watching our efforts come to life on the screen."

Apart from Govind and Yaquta, the team had Khushi Narula as the Writer & Logistics, Anant Verma as the Writer, Dhruv Sharma as the D.O.P., Kshitij Singh for Sound, Vibha Ravichandran for Creative Direction and Sakshi Chhabra for Location and Set.

This significant accolade helped the students hone their filmmaking skills and create and tell meaningful stories while adding another feather to MICA's cap.
