NAAC, a national autonomous body under the UGC for accreditation of universities and colleges, has released a list of 74 colleges and universities which have got NAAC accreditation as per the decision of the 24th meeting of the NAAC’s Standing Committee held on May 2nd, 2017 at Bengaluru.

Out of 74 colleges and universities which have been accredited under the Ist Cycle of Accreditation, only two institutions have been given A+ Grade (A+ Grade requires 3.5 – 3.74 score on a scale of 4).  These two institutions are BIMTECH, a B’school under AICTE and the Miranda House, a renowned Delhi University College.

Out of the top B’schools in India, BIMTECH is now one of the very few B’schools which have both NBA and NAAC accreditations.  Faculty, students and alumni of the institute today celebrated this achievement with fanfare, felicitations and by cutting a cake in the presence of large number of faculty and staff.

NATIONAL ASSESSMENT AND ACCREDITATION COUNCIL (NAAC)  was established in 1994 under the UGC to make quality the defining element of higher education in India through a combination of self and external quality evaluation, promotion and sustenance initiatives. It is an autonomous body established in 1994 by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India to assess and accredit institutions of higher education in the country. It was set up as an outcome of the recommendations of the National Policy in Education (1986) which laid special emphasis on upholding the quality of higher education in India. To address the issues of quality, the National Policy on Education (1986) and the Plan of Action (POA-1992) advocated the establishment of an independent national accreditation body. It works on five core values (i) contributing to national development ii) Fostering Global Competencies among Students (iii) Inculcating a Value System in Students (iv) Promoting the Use of Technology and (v) Quest for Excellence.

NAAC has identified seven criteria to serve as the basis of its assessment procedures i.e. (i) Curricular Aspects, (ii) Teaching-Learning and Evaluation, (iii) Research, Consultancy and Extension, (iv) Infrastructure and Learning Resources, (v) Student Support and Progression, (vi) Governance, Leadership and Management and (vii) Innovations and Best Practices. These Seven Criteria are further divided into "Key Aspects”.

BIMTECH has been accredited by NBA in 2008 and again in 2015.  Since NAAC’s accreditation is optional for B’schools, we decided to get NAAC accreditation in the year 2016. We completed the self assessment for the institute in September 2016 and the same was uploaded on our website pronto. This process of Self assessment is meant to provide the B school with an opportunity for a comprehensive review of its status and for bringing clarity about its functioning. The self assessment report (SSR) provides important information, data and supporting documents to facilitate the accreditation process. SSR provides a starting point for the assessment by the peer review team.
