Equinox 6.0 goes live with a bang at IIM Raipur

Though it’s the same sun that rises each morning but, for the students of IIM Raipur it was altogether a different sunrise. The much awaited Equinox 6.0 the flagship B-School event kick started with a bang.

The event was inaugurated by Mr. Rabi Narayan Patra of IDBI bank, Dr. B. S. Sahay, Director IIM Raipur and Prof.  Atri Sengupta, Chairperson Student Affairs Committee.  The plethora of events packed for day 1 included mega opening with stand-up comedy – ‘85 point someone’ by Chuck that entertained the students till they laughed their hearts out. The campus had a vibrant atmosphere with hundreds of students coming from all across the country to mark their participation in this mega event.

The first event conducted was Udyam- the B-Plan competition by the Consulting & Entrepreneurship Club of IIM Raipur. The purpose of Udyam was to uncover disrupting ideas that challenged the existing models and be the next big idea that brings a positive ripple in the country. The event saw participation from more than 100 teams from across the country from all the top colleges such as IIMs, ISB Hyderabad, SPJIMR, SIBM, NMIMS, etc. out of which the best 5 teams were shortlisted. The jury consisted of stalwarts from the industry and academia namely Mr. Abhishek Agarwal, Executive Director of GODAWARI POWER AND ISPAT LTD, Ms. Manjusha Parial, a management consultant with AnM Consultants and Prof. Sumeet Gupta, an Associate Professor at IIM Raipur in the area of Operations and System.

Shashank Shekhar and Kundan Kumar of team ‘ShanSa’ from K J Somaiya College were adjudged the winners while Ankur Singh, Saqibullah Choudhary and Rohit Kapoor of team Ace from SIOM were adjudged the Runner’s-up.

At the same time Manovra, conducted by marketing club Mantra, was an event of marketing acumen, rational decision making and accurate strategizing skills to navigate through a series of tantalizing rounds. Of the 3 rounds, the 1st round was an online quiz which saw registration from 150 teams, but only 30 could make to the next round of online simulation game where they had to create a product, market it, sell it to the customers and generate profits. Out of which 5 teams were selected for the final round. The finale presented to the participants, a scenario where they had to market the idea of war consulting firms in the era of 16th century. The finalist teams were from IIM Raipur, XIMB and VGSOM-IIT Kharagpur. The event was judged by Mr. Pawan Agrawal, Director – Amritmaya Foods and Mr. Kiran Sharma, Director – Deobhog. After a 3-hour battle between the teams where each team got a chance to present their solutions and faced fierce cross questioning from the judges and the other participants, Team Beatles from IIM Raipur and Team Smiling Assassins from XIMB secured the first and the second positions respectively.

During afternoon Mr. Ravi Naval delivered a talk on Entrepreneurship for Social Impact and inspired the budding managers from all across the country on their role in bringing about a change in the country. Entrepreneurship is not about managing a start up but ensuring how you can contribute to the society in whatever you are doing.

Meanwhile, the Nukkad Natak competition organized by the CSR Club, Kartavya was very helpful in creating awareness among people on various social issues demanding urgent attention. The venue was Railway Station to ensure maximum reach  and it started at 1.30PM and continued till 4PM with Mr. Ravindra Goyal, Actor, Director, Playwright, Producer, Short Film Maker and member of Sutanuka Society of Performing Arts and Prof. Mukesh Kumar, faculty of IIM Raipur being on the jury.

Five finalist teams from different colleges including NIT Raipur, BIT Durg, AIIMS Raipur, SSIPMT and IIM Raipur participated to showcase their talents. Performances were based on social issues like women harassment, rape culture and others. The winner of the finale was NIT Raipur and runners-up Sri Sankaracharya Institute of Professional Management and Technology. Street Theatre or the Nukkad Natak, as it is locally known, is perhaps India’s most ancient form of entertainment. Street theatre is perhaps the most effective way to combine live action before a live audience, and get instantaneous responses. The trend of street shows has been on the decline in our country and our primary objective was to revive the spirit of street shows as well as deliver a social message through the event.

The post lunch Acoustic Competition saw reverberating performances on guitar, violin and beat-boxing. Aspiring singer Mr. Ankit Dhingra was the judge for the event. Audiences were enthralled by the high-energy performances. Silvestar Stephens from NMIMS Hyderabad was the winner of the acoustic competition and Aadit Patnaik from IIM Raipur was the runner’s up. It was followed by events like Hindi Shayari and Just-a-minute to impress the audience.

They proved the fact that Dance is the best way to express oneself. The winner of the event was BIT Durg and runners-up were JNM Medical College.

There was not a single moment during the day which lacked the energy of students. Day 1 unfolded a bunch of events and it paves way for many more exciting events lined up for the upcoming two days of extravaganza.
