First Annual International Microfinance Research Workshop at FIIB, New Delhi

Fortune Institute of International Business (FIIB), New Delhi, is partnering with Banque Populaire Chair in Microfinance of the Burgundy School of Business, Dijon, France; Sa-Dhan, a Microfinance Regulatory Institution and Sahulat Microfinance Society, New Delhi for organizing the First Annual International Microfinance Research Workshop in New Delhi on 15th & 16th July 2016. This annual workshop called ‘Participation for Harmonious Development (PHD)’ intends to bring together microfinance and every possible initiative being implemented anywhere in the world that would result in the creation of harmony among the participants.

Representatives from Switzerland, Brazil, France, Bangladesh and the host country India are the few to name from the extensive list who would be participating in the workshop. The theme for this year mainly focuses on two diverse areas, namely, Crowdfunding and Cooperatives. Crowdfunding includes donors participating for art projects (Kickstarter), lending with care (KIVA, Ankaainvestors) and even investing with care (Seedrs, Crowdcube). On the other hand, the most suitable institutional framework for solving mutual needs has been Cooperatives. Today, both themes are witnessing an explosion of research as academics and practitioners search for best practices to make the world a better place.

The two day event will involve, paper presentations from national and international researchers on the theme of the workshop and visit to microfinance institutions for familiarising the international participants with the microfinance system in India. A book on ‘Microfinance and Financial Inclusion’ will also be released in the workshop. Fortune Institute of International Business will host the workshop at its campus in Vasant Vihar, New Delhi.
