1st Indian B School Summit Held At XIME

The first Indian B – School Summit saw the who is who of management education in India speaking on ‘Heralding a new era in management education in India’. This mega meet of directors and deans of leading B – Schools  of the country was held at Xavier Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship, Bangalore on 9 – 10 October 2015.  Dr. J Alexander, Former Chief Secretary, Karnataka and Chairman, XIME Kochi welcomed the august gathering and mentioned the importance of this meet in the changing higher education scene of the country. Prof J Philip, President, XIME and Former Director, IIM B introduced the conference theme to the assembly of distinguished educationists citing that every crisis is an opportunity to emerge stronger. Fr. Dr. E Abraham S J, Director XLRI and President of Indian Association of Autonomous B Schools (IAABS) delivered the presidential address and emphasized on the need to have greater reforms in the sector to enable Indian B Schools to be at par with the best global B Schools.  He reiterated the importance of self regulation and increased autonomy in bringing in greater competitiveness to the PGDM schools. He also mentioned about the recent IIM Bill and its ramifications to the private PGDM schools. He also elaborated on suggestions ranging from accepting international accreditations to facilitate more NRI faculty like in China.

One more suggestion from the Director, XLRI was that AICTE should become more of a facilitator than a simple regulator. Chief Guest of the summit, Mr. B Muthuraman, Former MD, TATA Steel and former president, CII spoke on the transformational role played by the Indian management education to make Indian industries what they are today. Balance between regulation and autonomy was the main focus of his speech, but emphasized on the greater value of autonomy.  Later Dr. M B Athreya, leading Management Consultant, Dr. R Natarajan, Former Director, ITC and former chairman, AICTE, Dr. Bakul Dholakia, Director General of IMI and Vice President, IAABS, Prof G R Kulkarni, former DG, IIFT and former Dean IIM A, chairman XIME, Prof T V Rao, Former IIM A professor and chairman TVR Learning systems and Dr. C P Shrimali, Director, MDI also addressed the gathering on multiple facets of heralding a new era in management education in India.

This powerful summit saw participation from Deans and Directors coming from around hundred top B Schools of India and formulation of an appeal to the HRD Ministry regarding current issues concerning Indian B Schools. Overall the summit brought out positive outlook and hope for a brighter future of global standards for the Indian PGDM system.
