Great Lakes Institute of Management, India’s leading B-School, organized its annual Human Capital Management (HCM) Conference at its campus today. The annual conference envisions bringing together the best of HR leaders in the industry and potential managers of the future to discuss the current trends and way forward on the central theme of the event. This year’s conference was based on the theme - “Re-engineering Human capital management”

Mr. S. G. Prabhakharan, Chairman -XS Real Properties Pvt Ltd, Director -Lakshmi Vilas Bank Ltd.& President-Madras Chamber of Commerce and Mr. V. Srinivasan - Group President, Archean Group were the chief guests.

Welcoming the chief guests and setting the context for the event, Dr. Bala V Balachandran, Founder, Chairman & Dean, Great Lakes Institute of Management, said, “Any other resource may depreciate, but not human capital. That is why it is crucial for any organization to invest more on its human capital.”

Speaking on re-engineering human capital, Mr. S. G. Prabhakharan said, “The strategy of managing Human Capital has changed over the years and is perhaps the biggest challenge for Human Resource or Human Capital Managers today.” You may have process and technology in place, but in order to have a successful business, you have to learn to manage your people, he added.

Sharing his views on the theme, Mr. V. Srinivasan told that re-engineering should be applied to three important areas – Hiring, talent retention and performance measurement. Human Resource departments should only felicitate the recruitment process, but hiring right candidates and retaining them is everybody’s responsibility.” A culture of meritocracy also is an important aspect of re-engineering Human capital,he added.

The event also witnessed an interactive Panel discussion on ‘Answering the Talent Crunch’ moderated by Ms. Latha Rajan, Co - Founder & Director, Mafoi Group. The panellists for the session were Ms. Aarthi Sivaramakrishnan, Head HR - Beroe Consulting, Mr.Ravi Shankar, Global Head - HR, VA Tech Wabag Ltd., and Mr. Stanley George, Head - HR South India, Hexaware.
