IIM Kozhikode

The Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode (IIMK) campus echoed with triumphant cries as the hosts were crowned Champions of the recently concluded annual inter-IIM Sports Meet, ‘Sangram’, here on Monday. The 15th edition of Sangram saw closely contested events between all four IIMs in the South, spread across 3 days (1st -3rd November). Nearly 700 students from IIMs of Bangalore, Trichy, Vizag and Kozhikode participated in the sports meet.

Hosts IIM Kozhikode (9 Gold, 4 Silver, 5 Bronze) emerged victorious and wrested the overall Champions Trophy from last year’s winners IIM Bangalore (6 Gold, 9 Silver, 5 Bronze) who emerged second this time followed by IIM Trichy (5 Gold, 6 Silver, 9 Bronze) and IIM Vizag (1 Gold, 2 Silver, 3 Bronze). The Meet witnessed a total of 25 Events out of which 22 were medal events and included 18 sports disciplines  - Table Tennis, Carrom, Chess, Pool, Swimming, Cricket, Football, Lawn Tennis, Badminton, Volleyball, Basketball, Hockey, Kho-Kho, Futsal, Throwball, Kabaddi, Foosball and Frisbee. Out of these Kabaddi, Foosball and Frisbee were non-medal events introduced in this edition of Sangram. The opening ceremony was graced by Ms Mamtha Kanojia, member of Indian National Women Cricket Team and current captain of the Hyderabad cricket team, in the presence of Prof. Anandkuttan Unnithan, Dean (Academics), IIMK.

Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director IIMK, congratulated the sports committee members for keeping the IIMK flag high and said “Sports is a vital ingredient in the holistic development of every individual. The sheer passion with which students participated in this Event is testimony to the enormous talent they possess not only in academics but also in other arenas.” He also lauded the efforts of the student community and IIMK staff for hosting a successful Sangram 2019, and also the participating IIMs for keeping the sports culture alive and kicking. Started in 2004 between IIMK and IIMB, this is the 15th edition of Sangram, hosted alternatively by IIMK and IIMB.
