2nd Global Summit on Management Cases to be held by IIM Raipur
For long it has been a source of discontent across Indian B-schools that most of the cases discussed in classrooms are from Harvard’s or Richard Ivey’s of the world. IIM Raipur has decided to contribute in creating the reservoir of Indian cases which can help the young mind prepare themselves for the challenges which are inherent to Indian context. With this objective IIM Raipur had started their yearly event GSMC (Global Summit of Management Cases).
The 2nd edition of the event is going to be organized on Feb. 05th & 06th, in association with ET Cases. A one of its kind event, the summit intends to build a platform for case writers, academicians and people from industry to come and present cases in the area of business and management. It aims to highlight real time challenges & problems encountered by entrepreneurs and corporate in the ever changing times of today. Through this summit IIM Raipur seeks to establish synergy between corporate and academia to expedite a better environment of problem solving.
The summit also provides ample opportunities to share ideas, to improve case writing skills besides facilitating to meet colleagues and disseminate experiences of using case method of teaching. Cases are invited across the world from faculties, researchers, practitioners, consultants and others.
The case method plays an essential role in management education. It is an important part of the curriculum of most of the top B-schools worldwide. The case method is an instructor-guided learning tool that engages the student in finding solutions to real world problems, in a structured and informed way by analysing all given factors in a simulated environment. In this method of learning, students can visualize a real situation, analyze situations, develop alternatives, communicate and defend their findings in the classroom. Cases are more likely to engage students in the classroom than the conventional mode of teaching.
This year, it is happening at a global scale with eminent personalities from across the border marking their presence in the summit. Notable among them is, Mr. William W. Kooser, the Associate Dean for Global Outreach at the University of Chicago Booth School Of Business.Ms. PreetiD'mello, Leadership Development and Systemic Coaching & Mentoring at Tata Consultancy Services. She has a Master’s Degree from Harvard University.Ms. Ashwini Deshpande, the co-founder of Elephant, India's largest independent integrated design consultancy. She has been awarded a place among 50 Most Influential Women in Media in India by Impact Magazine, March 2015.
The Summit is one of the steps by IIM Raipur to position itself as a Research based Institute. To pursue this cause, they started their Fellowship program in 2012. It prides itself as the sole program in the country that mandates the program participants- Research scholars, as a part of curriculum, to write a primary company based case. It contributes to the knowledge capital of the country.
The Summit is an Endeavour to fill up the gap of demand and supply dynamics of cases in management in the Indian context. This year IIM Raipur received overwhelming response from case authors from Indian and abroad. The cases are received from academicians, research scholars and industry practitioners in all functional areas of management including; marketing, finance, human resource management, information and communication technology, operation management, strategy and general management and other related areas of management.
The two days Summit includes fifteen technical sessions and one panel discussion. The panel discussion will be on the topic-Making Management Relevant:
Learning through Relevant Cases. The panel discussion will be moderated by Dr. Vinita Sahay, Prof. IIM Raipur which would be followed by 11 technical sessions spread over the span of 2 days where all cases would be presented and the best cases among the different categories will be awarded by IIM Raipur - ET Cases during the Summit.
This Summit would be a great opportunity for academicians, research scholars and corporate executives & practitioners to interact and network with top case authors and senior professors. This is also an opportunity to know about the contemporary practices in management case writing and case handling in the class.
