IIM ROHTAK CONDUCTS HR SUMMIT Harnessing Tech Potential - Navigating Workforce Resilience in the Digital Age

The Indian Institute of Management Rohtak organized an HR summit on the 29th of July 2023. The theme of the event was "Harnessing Tech Potential - Navigating Workforce Resilience in the Digital Age". Industry stalwarts from renowned organizations like Rockwell Automation, Lenovo, L&T Finance, Kearney, ITC infotech, HSBC Technology India, Sony, Reliance Jio, JSW Steel, Apollo Tyres, and HCC among others participated in various panel discussions and shared anecdotes from years of professional experience spread across Human Resource Management and technological upgradation.

The director, Prof. Dheeraj Sharma, welcomed the guests and expressed gratitude to the organizing committees. He explained the power that technology holds in both controlling and transforming lives. While technology brings great economic power and choice, the social effects of rapid technological advancement are something that those in the industry must remain that also need consideration. The esteemed Director encouraged the students in the audience to imbibe the qualities of a responsible and skilled workforce that is fully empowered to add value to the organizations they are poised to join post-graduation. He said that they must harness the best parts of technology.



The first-panel discussion was on the topic of “Next-Gen Recruitment Strategies: Harnessing Technology to Secure Top Talent”. The panelists included business leaders from various industries- Mr. Pallav Purkayastha, Head of Talent Acquisition (Rockwell Automation); Mr. Vishal Bansal, Head of India Talent Acquisition (Lenovo) and Mr. Ajay Pandey, Head of Business HR (L&T Finance). The panelists focused on the development in Technology that is leading to the change in the recruitment process. The panel highlighted how technology has significantly streamlined operations and enhanced efficiency in the ever-evolving world of HR. The discussion revolved around the essential role technology plays in talent acquisition, retention, and assessment, emphasizing how the COVID-19 pandemic has expedited the adoption of tech-driven recruitment strategies.

The second-panel discussion focused on “Rewards and Recognition in the New Age: Transformative Shifts and Emerging Trends”. Ms. Indu Kapoor, Vice President - Head of Business HR (ITC Infotech); Ms. Monika Diwan, Head HR - HRBP Leader (GFK); Ms. Richa Dwivedi, Chief of Staff (HSBC Technology India); Ms. Rakhi Jaggi, Head Talent Management (Sony) and Mr. Praveen Rai, Asst. Vice President & Regional Head of HR (Reliance Jio) were among the panelists. The panelists focused on the usage of sentiment analysis tools to devise a recognition program and understand the employee base- diversity in terms of education, age, psychographics, and expectations. The panel illuminated the paradigm shift from a performance-centric approach to one that aligns an individual's aspirations with the organization's vision for sustainable growth. The panel also explored how personalized recognition and rewards programs have gained traction, acknowledging that each employee is unique and deserves individual appreciation.

Focusing on technology’s importance in employee management and experience, the third-panel discussion was on the topic of “Unlocking the Potential: Revolutionizing Employee Experience with Technology.” Ms. Suman Singh Deo, Head of Recruitment for GBS India & Malaysia (Standard Chartered); Mr. Manpreet Singh, HR Director- The People Office (FIS); Mr. Gautam Chatterji, Asst. Vice President of Human Resources (LTIMindtree) and Ms. Sathi Aich Dharap, Senior Director - HR, APAC (GEP Worldwide) were among the panelists. The discussion revolved around the challenges like online onboarding, virtual hiring processes, and employee engagement that the organizations faced during the Covid period. The panelists stated how the organizations utilized technology in solving the challenges. Technology was used to enhance employee experience - including online medical checkups as the physical and mental health of employees was prioritized. The panelist stated that Humans are social beings so they need human interaction therefore organizations should develop the right Tech-Human fit. The panel emphasized that striking the right balance between digital and human interaction remains a decision-making phase for organizations as the industry is still evolving.

The fourth panel of the summit, rooted in the topic “Tech-Driven Talent Revolution: Democratizing Decision-Making in HR Management”, stressed the importance of Technology and Analytics in decision-making for HR practices. The panelists were Mr. Sathish Chinnaiah, VP HR, (Innoviti Technologies); Mr. Priya Ranjan, VP HRM (JSW Steel); Mr. Ganesh Balasubramanian, Divisional Head- HR (Global R&D Centre, APMEA) (Apollo Tyres); Mr. Vijay Amrit Raj, Head HR Business Partner, Talent & Learning and Facilities Mgmt. (Raymond Consumer Care) and Mr. Anirudhha Singh, CHRO (HCC). The discussion started with the advantages and disadvantages that technology has brought to HR processes. The panelists shared certain instances like Lip syncing during hiring interviews as a disadvantage of technology while AI detection is an advantage as it offers solutions. The panel highlighted that technological advancements have transformed HR decision-making, utilizing data analytics for better efficiency and accuracy. The panelist said that Technology has replaced subjectivity and biases with objectivity in HR decisions. The panelist also mentioned that Technology has enabled learning opportunities from anywhere, benefiting employees. The Panel concluded that human connection and touch cannot be replaced by technology so HR's role is to retain the personal and emotional touch in organizations.
