IMT Ghaziabad Conducts Multi City Workshop on Service Excellence

Dr A. Parasuraman of University of Miami will lead the workshop

With an objective to make service excellence a critical component of its pedagogy and be a part of India growth story where competitive advantage through service excellence can see a multiplier effect on India’s GDP, IMT Ghaziabad (IMTG), India’s premier AACSB accredited management school is conducting a multi-city workshop in New Delhi, Chennai and Mumbai from July 19 to 21, 2017. The workshop will be led by the Guru of Service Marketing, Dr A. Parasuraman (James W. McLamore Chair in Marketing, Professor, and Department Chair at the University of Miami, Florida, USA).

IMTG believes that, with the changing customer expectations and limitations of product differentiation owing to technology standardisation, the growth of Indian economy, today, is being driven by services. Companies today are re-orienting themselves to create a differentiation in terms of customer experiences through service orientation. Hence, IMTG affirms that it is imperative to review the agenda not only for business leaders but business schools as well.

Talking about the workshop, Director, IMTG, Dr Atish Chattopadhyay says, “As an institution, we intend to bring in the best practices in the area of services, and we feel privileged that Prof. Parasuraman has agreed to guide and mentor us in this agenda for change. We have embarked on a journey through aligning the required courses of marketing with service orientation, introduction of a minor specialisation with ‘services’ as the focus, and exploring possibilities of creating a platform for the industry to work on areas which bring in service orientation within the organisation. The idea is to build the platform for service excellence across industries in India through creation, dissemination, and implementation of relevant knowledge.”

Commenting on his association with IMTG, Dr Parasuraman said, “It’s indeed a pleasure for me to be associated with this very exciting and potentially very rewarding journey that IMT is embarking on, in the name of injecting service into their curriculum several courses wide and also in terms of injecting service excellence into everything that they are doing. I am particularly excited about the notion of creating the centre for service excellence in India because service is really the clear sustainable differentiator for a variety of companies in a number of different industries. And, there’s really no management Institute (including IIMs) in India right now, that has any broad-based centre of service excellence like that. During the multi-city workshop over the next three days, I’ll be interacting with senior alumni of the Institute as well as other industry leaders to help articulate the vision for this journey of IMT, share with them some of my own thinking based on my research in the area of services over the past 35 years, and reiterate the need for such a service excellence in the Indian context in the present time.”
