  • Approximately 12 million people to join workforce every year

India’s leading Technical and research institution, The Malviya National Institute of Technology, Jaipur (MNIT), has been chosen by National Human Resource Development Network to conduct its new social initiative programme– The Concept of National Professor. The National Professor is a Honorary Position instituted by NHRDN which aims at equipping students with skills required to meet various emerging issues of Management Education in India. The National Professor programme will be conducted in the MNIT Campus beginning 29th, July, 2015 which will see a presence of personnel’s such as Padmabhushan Prof. Arvind Panagariya, Padmabhushan Prof. M.M. Sharma, Padmabhushan Prof. K. Kasturirangan, Padmashree Prof. Govardhan Mehta, Shri A.S. Kiran Kumar (Chairman, ISRO & Secretary, Department of Space, GoI), Prof. Ashutosh Sharma (Secretary, DST, GoI) & Shri S.Y. Siddiqui (Chief Mentor, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.).

Speaking on this occasion, Prof. I.K. Bhatt, Director, MNIT, Jaipur said, “According to a private consulting services organization in its background note given to FICCI during the 3rd Global Skill Summit, it was mentioned that, India is expected to be a home to 500 million skilled workforce by the end of 2020. Also an approximate 12 million persons would be expected to join workforce every year. This means that the talent pool needs to be adequately skilled and qualified enough to meet the demand of the Industry on the whole. The report also mentioned that the employment and manufacturing services sector would have an excess of 250 million persons. In India, only about 5% of the workforce has marketable skills, as compared to 50% to 60% in other countries. Thus, it can be estimated that there is a huge required capacity for training new as well as the existing workforces.” 

Prof. Bhatt also mentioned that, “There are in all 3000 B- Schools in India and students do believe that they would attain their skills that would be needed after graduating from these schools. However, what one can notice is that, there is a huge mismatch in the skill sets available and the industry expectations. Hence, NHRD in a social initiative has introduced the concept of National Professor. The National Professor is a unique concept that aims at strengthening the professional HR Education in India, supplementing the academic rigor with practical insights and interactions with various senior practicing scholars and managers disseminating knowledge. We are extremely delighted to invite the NHRD Network to our campus and initiate the National Professor Programme which will extremely enlightening for our students.”

The programme will see a National Professor visit a selected institution and will conduct a one to two days of experience sharing sessions and will also encourage interactions with the National Professor and the participants. The sessions will have case studies, practical life situations and presentations which will be given by the National Professor.
