The first ever International Conference on Rural Management of the Xavier School of Rural Management, Xavier University Bhubaneswar will be held on November 23rd and 24th, 2017. ICRM 2017 is designed to link the different thematic areas of Rural Management with United Nations’ seventeen aspirational Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). ICRM will facilitate the congregation of scholars and practitioners from across the world to deliberate and contribute towards the consolidation of the field of Rural Management and how it can dovetail into the efforts towards achievement on SDGs.
The conference will consist of Shri Amarjeet Sinha, Secretary, Ministry of Rural Development, GoI as the chief guest who shall inaugurate the event. In addition, senior practitioners and academics from Rural Management such as Shri Saurabh Garg, Principal Secretary, Dept. of Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment, Govt. of Odisha, Shri. Jugal Kishore Mohapatra, Independent Director, National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Ltd., Dr.Sankar Dutta, Professional Development Activist, Pradan, Mr. Sanjay Panigrahi, President (Rurban and Special Projects) at Pidilite Industries, Prof. KV Raju, Director, DMI, Patna, Prof.VivekBandari, Director IRMA, Shri Tripathy, IFA, Commissioner, Rural Development, Ranchi, Govt. of Jharkhand, Mr. Liby Johnson, Executive Director, Gram Vikas, Mr. Prerit Rana, Co-Founder & CEO, Agrasar and Mr. N.V. Ramana, Ex-CEO, Basix. They will present their perspectives on the focus and trajectory of Rural Management in the domain of profession and education.
The 1st ICRM will focus on exploring the field of Rural Management, and how its thematic areas intersect with, and underpin the efforts towards sustainable development. Clearly, effective management of programs and organizations is crucial to attainment of the SDGs; but as the organizational landscape for rural development transforms, established ways are increasingly giving way to innovative and emergent strategies and practices. Systematic and critical consideration of these is necessary. Papers and cases are also invited on innovative initiatives and practices in all functional areas and sectors of rural development management.
Xavier University, Bhubaneswar (XUB) was established in accordance with the Xavier University Act 2013 and was inaugurated on 7 July 2014. The University is India’s first digital University and an institution of higher learning for imparting professional and technical education. It is a self-financing institution of higher learning for imparting professional and technical education. XUB offers a doctoral program in different disciplines. It also offers a Masters in Business Management through XIMB, Masters in Human Resource Management through the Xavier School of Human Resource Management, Masters in Rural Management through the Xavier School of Rural Management, Masters in Sustainability Management through the Xavier School of Sustainability, Masters in Business Finance, Masters in Business Administration (Urban Management and Governance) and a Masters in Mass Communication. Apart from these, XUB offers undergraduate courses in Mass Communication, Commerce, Computer Science and Engineering and Economics.
XSRM, a premier school of XUB, has been developed around the longstanding Rural Management program established in XIMB in 1995. Its flagship two-year full-time MBA-Rural Management Program is the second oldest program in Rural Management in the country, and the school now also offers executive, integrated Ph.D and PhD programs. The MBA-RM program of XSRM has been ranked 19th globally among post-graduate programmes in food and agribusiness management for the last four consecutive years.
