The Jindal School of International Affairs (JSIA) of O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) successfully concluded its placement session for academic year 2018-19 with the big 4s, think tanks, global companies and international NGOs recruiting its students.
This year, Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC), Care India and Development Alternatives led the recruitments. The other leading organisations whose job openings have been made available to JSIA’s students in 2018 include Max Weber Stiftung (India Branch), International Justice Mission, New Development Bank in Shanghai, New Zealand High Commission, Max Solutions, Bureau of Research on Industry and Economic Fundamentals (BRIEF), Center for Human Security Studies (CHSS), Godrej Culture Lab, Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS), India Writes Network, Polish Institute New Delhi, US Consulates in Mumbai and Chennai, Embassy of Lebanon, Danish Embassy and the Australian High Commission.
Speaking about the career opportunities opening up for students of International Affairs and Global Studies, the Vice Chancellor of JGU, Dr. C. Raj Kumar, commented, “In the past, the study of International Affairs was seen as leading only to civil service jobs or higher education ending in academic jobs. JSIA has diversified the field significantly and showed the path to a variety of full-time positions for its graduating students that go beyond UPSC and PhD. Our students are faring quite well by finding full-time positions in embassies, think tanks, consultancies, NGOs, news media and intergovernmental bodies. The study of foreign affairs in India is now becoming an excellent choice not only for intellectual growth but also as a practical option for a rewarding career.”
The Dean of JSIA, Dr. Sreeram Chaulia remarked in this context, “We are focused on widening and deepening our recruiter base across various segments to shape students’ imaginations. We expect several domestic and international non-profit and for-profit entities to hire from our future graduating batch as several organisations have signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with our University for offering internships to our students. Apart from dedicated career support staff, our faculty members are mentoring and helping students to connect with potential employers and this is yielding benefits.”
The corporate and non-profit institutions which recruited JSIA’s students include KPMG, Grant Thornton, Justice and Care, Deloitte, CREA, ESSAR Foundation, CRY, Godrej Culture Lab, Akshaya Patra Foundation, Atma Foundation, Sattva Consulting, The Centre for Internet & Society, and Global Trust.
More than 40 organisations have led JSIA to achieve 95% internship placements in diversified fields with 60% of total offers to women students. The noteworthy recruiters were Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Human Resource Development, State Human Rights Commission, BBC Monitoring, Times of India, Direct Dialogue Initiative India (DDII) and Amnesty International.
JSIA students have also opted for admissions into various degree programmes in leading International schools including Tsinghua University in China, University of York in the UK, Queen Mary University in London, Geneva School of Diplomacy and International Relations, Switzerland; London School of Economics, King’s College in London, International Institute of Social Studies at the Erasmus University in the Netherlands.
