It was an honor for Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB) to host Mr. Sumit Sabharwal - the Head of HR at Fujitsu Consulting India, a global information and communication technology (ICT) company known to be one of the world's most admired organisations. It is also a Fortune Global 500 company. The topic of the leadership talk held on 6th January 2019 was “What organizations are looking from Management Graduates.”
Mr. Sumit, who manages the end-to-end HR for close to 5000 employees at Fujitsu Consulting India, has worked towards creating a sustainable work experience for engaging and empowering the professionals along with organizational development and implementing industry best practices. He has spearheaded large scale HR Transformation Projects and has also instituted Global Learning and Development. He has been instrumental in paving way for Fujitsu India to retain its leadership position for three consecutive years in High Performing Norm category for Employee Satisfaction score. He loves engaging in conversations with people from diverse groundings. He enjoys co-creating undertakings that are interdisciplinary in their essence and efficacious when translated. Mr. Sumit strongly believes in revolutionizing employee experience, as a buoyant workplace boosts productivity. He also advocates digitization of HR, diversity and collaborative learning as the key players in bringing about a change.
While addressing an enthusiastic batch of students at XIMB, Mr. Sumit Sabharwal elucidated the roles of an HR Manager in multinational companies like Fujitsu where people from various backgrounds amalgamate together to make the company successful as it is now. By integrating the work ethics of different individuals, and channelizing their potential towards the greater goal, an HR manager handles some of the most crucial issues of any company. He also tried to break some stereotypes usually attached to the HR department witty anecdotes. He shed some light upon the importance of inclusivity, mutual respect, proactive decisions, and seamless coordination among various organizations which are facilitated by the HR department to cope up with the fast-changing landscape of the business environment. By giving some hard-hitting examples from the ruthless realities of corporate life, he made the session enriching for the students who were previously unaware about the importance of HR department in any organization.
This enlightening and simulating talk helped the students understand what organizations expect from them and which all skills do they need to develop or improve. The talk was concluded with an interactive Q&A session wherein Mr. Sumit answered thoughtful and challenging questions posed by the students.
