The Global Media Education Council has awarded MICA faculty and Senior Advisor Dr.Arbind Sinha the prestigious 'Media & Communication Education award for his lifetime contribution to the field of Communication for Development.
The Global Media Education Council (GMEC) is a global professional body of media educators, practitioners, media institutes, and departments of universities. As part of its global reputation and credibility, the Council has constituted awards to eminent Indian and international stalwarts for their lifetime contribution to media and communication studies.
Prof. Sinha, former Acting Director of MICA, received the award during the Global Communication Education Conclave (GCEC) on November 8, 2021. To mark 75 years of India's independence, the 75-day online conclave, organized by GMEC, intends to celebrate diversity with scholarly contributions from varied perspectives over six months.
Dr. Shailendra Raj Mehta, President & Director, MICA, said, "MICA is privileged to have Prof. Sinha as part of our community. He has done pioneering work in the field of Media and Development Communication. This award by the Global Media Education Council (GMEC) is a recognition of the same."
Speaking about the recognition, Prof. Arbind Sinha said, "I feel honored to receive this award. Especially at a time when the media is leveled as a tool to promote consumerism and focus more on political and economic affairs, the Global Media Education Council, the largest body of media professionals, has recognized the contribution of development communication and awarded its efforts."
Professor Sinha has worked with the Space Applications Centre -ISRO for more than two decades. He also spent years as a Communication Advisor to the Denmark Embassy in India, looking after their health sector program. Presently, he is an adjunct faculty at MICA and holds the post of Vice-President of the Association of Development Communication (ADC).
