MICA LAUNCHES ITS ENTREPRENEURIAL EVENT, STARTUP GARAGE 1.0
MICA EDC (ENTREPRENUERSHIP DEVELOPMENT CELL) LAUNCHES ITS FLAGSHIP ENTREPRENEURIAL EVENT, STARTUP GARAGE 1.0
The Entrepreneurship Development Cell at MICA (MICA EDC) held a one-of-its-kind entrepreneurial event, aptly titled “StartUp Garage 1.0” on 13th March at the Mani Ayer Auditorium, MICA.
MICA EDC is the on-campus platform through which students with interest in pursuing entrepreneurship are encouraged to take the plunge and convert their ideas to an executable business proposition. The aim of the event was to enhance the ability of participants to take feedback and implement it to their business model, while imbibing the skill-set necessary to run a startup. The mentors for the event were Mr. Akshay Chaturvedi – Head of Partnerships & Outreach at Babajob.com, Mr. Rahul Bathija, who handles Customer Marketing for Modern Trade RE at Colgate Palmolive India, & Mr. Vijay Khubchandani, founder of an array of startups such as YOPO, MoneyLeo.com, and guest author on various technology blogs.
During the course of the 8-hour long event, the 33 participants from MICA and other colleges such as IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Bombay, & KJ Somaiya, were asked to prepare an individual pitch providing solutions of the problem statement, after which the best ideas were selected with their ideators being appointed as CEOs. A bidding process followed, wherein dream teams were formed by these CEOs. After an initial project approval from their respective mentors, the teams formulated a budget for their plan and pitched it to their mentors. On the basis of the contribution, a minimum viable product was planned, which underwent consumer validation.
The individual winners of the event were all from MICA: Pragya Mehra, Shraddha Singhania, Kavya Kashyap, Rahul Suresh and Kushagra Gupta, with the former two bagging top honors. The best team was awarded to ‘Humari Kaksha’ comprising Aayush Arora, Pragya Mehra, Akshay Shah and Sanket Shah.
With this event, MICA EDC attempts to help students find their inner entrepreneurial bug, and give them the requisite confidence to give shape to their ideas. This series of activities gave the participants an encapsulated experience of launching & managing a startup.
