MICA, Ahmedabad, recently hosted Mr. Saurabh Shukla, actor, director, and screenwriter who shared his insights on the evolution of Bollywood, the impact of violence in films, and the need for filmmakers to tell their own stories. Mr. Shukla, who shot to fame with the movie Satya, was speaking as part of MICANVAS, MICAs annual marketing festival.

Pointing out that we often miss the chance to tell our stories in Indian films, Mr. Shukla noted a tendency to overlook our diverse experiences. He questioned whether we genuinely understand our identity and how expressing our stories is challenging and needs freedom and a supportive system. Mr. Shukla recognized that a few films break these barriers, but he stressed the importance of continuing to tell our stories. He felt that filmmaking is not about making something everyone likes and conforming to the norms of society but about showing a bit of ourselves.

Mr. Shukla's insights into cinema, from the perception of violence in films to the changing dynamics of storytelling and scripting on OTT platforms, resonated with the audience. He discussed the intricacies by which society impacts films and how films influence society. With anecdotes from his career, Shukla inspired everyone to embrace their unique stories and contribute to making Indian cinema glorious.
