MICA WELCOMES NEW BATCH OF STUDENTS
MICA, Ahmedabad - India’s premier institute for Strategic Marketing and Communication, welcomed the 24th batch of PGP students, along with the 27th batch of CCC Students and the 7th batch of FPM students.
A total of 179 students joined the PGP course this year, which is MICA’s flagship course. The female to male ratio for this batch of students is 47:53, which has been achieved by default and has been consistently so over the past few years. A majority of the batch lies between the ages of 22 and 24, while 32% of the batch is 21 years old or younger. The batch is also diverse in terms of domicile states and a healthy representation from all parts of the country has been noticed.
While 63% of the batch comes from an engineering background, there is a substantial mix of students from Commerce, Economics, Management, Humanities and Communications backgrounds as well. About 72% of the batch has held previous work experience.
The PGDM course commenced on Monday, the 19th of June, 2017 with a two week long orientation programme which will introduce the newly minted MICAns to the curriculum and will also see various alumni addressing them with respect to what they may expect at MICA and the industry today.
The orientation kick-started with MICA President and Director Dr. Shailendra Raj Mehta welcoming the students to the institute. He focused on the importance of design thinking, reflecting on Acharya Vinobha Bhave’s idea of Prakriti, Sanskriti and Vikriti.
Dean Dr. Preeti Shroff spoke about what makes MICAns stand apart, highlighting the growing need for social impact based communication and the opportunities in the field. She says, “MICA believes in nurturing a community of new age ideas who represent the diversity of region, language, culture and professions. We are excited and pleased to have a great mix of male-female, science, management and social studies, academic and professional experiences in our incoming group of learners at MICA. As Maya Angelou reminds us all, “In diversity there is beauty and there is strength.”
